Last year I did the 100 Mile Wilderness section of the AT and I loved doing a longer hike. In 2008 I am hoping to do another 100 plus mile section of a long trail, maybe the AT maybe the Long Trail. An suggestions any interest?

Sure, join me.

I'm making plans for hiking New York's Finger Lakes Trail. It is 563 miles long. You are welcome to join me for any part of the trail.

The Shenandoah Section of the AT is a little over 100 miles. Shuttles are easily arranged.

The Donut Hole Trail in PA is 95 miles. It's one of my favorites.

The CDT thru Glacier NP is 107 miles.

Ok, lets clarify a little, I will probably pick something in the NE since it will be shorter travel time and give me more hiking time.

I'm thinking about maybe starting in Monson and heading south or doing half of the Long Trail.

Sacco I am thinking end of Sept like last years hike maybe the 20th to the 28th. Wanna try for half of the long trail? It is 270 miles long we could start at the Canadian Border and come south, I think it is less rugged on the north end which means higher mile days.

Hey Sacco if a girl can do it what do you think?

New unsupported endurance record set
I would like to announce that a new unsupported endurance record has been set on the LT recently.

24 y.o. Jennifer Pharr completed a NOBO end-to-end of the LT in 7 days 15 hours 40 minutes, breaking the former unsupported record of 8 days 13 hours and 25 minutes set by myself back in 1978.

Jennifer started at the VT/MA border on Wed. August 1st at 5am and reached the Canadian border on Wed. August 8th at 8:40pm. Her longest day was 45 miles and her shortest day was 27 miles.

This is a remarkable achievement since , as far as I know, this is the first time that a long distance trail endurance record, either supported or unsupported, has been held by a woman.

Congratulations Jennifer!

i can give you better than 50-50% that i'd be in for ~100 miles (7-12 days?) of the long trail this fall.
i bet i could give you a definite answer with my available dates by FYAO.

if a girl can do it in 8 1/2 days, then a couple of strapping young he-men like us should have no trouble doing the it in what... 4 or 5 days?

Really Chappy? Crash Bang and I were speculating a section hike, but that is really as far as anything got. I'd love to though. What is the weather like there in October?

In October it is usually around 75 in Ark. in that part of the state I would think. Of course there is also the Ouachita Trail with alot of good sections and about same temps. I'm going to be doing section 1 this coming week with a friend.

I would probably only be coming in for a long weekend. What kind of mileage do you usually do there? I can;t speak for Crash, but I would like to do as much as possible in about 3 days. What do you think would be the best for scenery and ruggedness?

The Ouachita is plenty rugged. I can do about 10+ miles/day...but whatever. I have a guy I call for shuttles. He charges 25 last time I heard. I'll let ya know when I get back next Friday.
