A very special place

Not sure if I ever posted these pics. In the depths of winter, they're nice to look at. I explored this special place this past June with a buddy from college. Rock Run is in PA, protected by the Loyalsock State Forest. A stream of great beauty with waterfalls, slides, chutes, chasms, and deep swimming holes. The water is crystalline. Rock Run has been rated by backpacker as having some of the best swimming holes in the US. Kayakers also love Rock Run for its Class IV-V rapids. I did go swimming, and the water was really cold. It also began to rain as a t-storm passed, but we found shelter under a rock overhang. As the rain fell, the water began to creep down the rock walls towards us.

I've been to many places and Rock Run is among the most beautiful. Several side streams have awesome waterfalls and big boulders.

It's such a beautiful place.

Especially nice to look at when the temps are about to drop into the teens. ;)

Thanks.

Rock Run is truly an original, made a trip up there this past April, ran into a cabin owner/leaser who said there is no more overnight camping allowed in that area, I was heartbroken. I'm sure there's still overnight camping in nearby areas.

Found my info. in a book called Hiking the Endless Mountains, great read, thanks Jmitch

I miss Rock Run, I need to get up there. It is a beautiful place.

Camping is no longer allowed, the place was getting more and more popular, even before my book. I can understand the restriction, and camping is allowed elsewhere.

No better place for swimming holes than Rock Run.

One of my favorite hikes is to hike up the run and jump in the swimming holes along the way.

We should plan a hike in August to do exactly that.

Hmmmm... shall we basecamp in Masten? I can lead a bushwhack into the awesome Upper Rock Run Gorge. We can also bushwhack to Miner, Dutchman, and Abbots Runs- tons and tons of waterfalls.

Now that sounds like a plan.

Early August?
