I don't think he meant that in a violent way, but its comments like that that are all the more reason to not get rid of the secret ballot when voting whether a shop should go union.

"Union organizers repeatedly fail to force these workers into the Unions."
Hyguy

Union organizers do not force worker to join.

Ya just had to sneak that in, huh?

In the early 20th century many companies had private armed forces used to terrorize and intimidate their workers into not organizing.

I'd like to see those studies Hyway.

From what I've heard Toyota factory workers complain about anything from safety to the amount of hours they work and they lose their jobs. I've heard interviews w/ Toyota workers expressing how much they wish they had gotten into the union when hey had the chance. Maybe things have changed?

The bottom line is the more we buy from foreign companies the more American workers and families suffer. Not just cars, everything. We as a country are shooting ourselves in the foot!

hah, y2 you are so stupid. I was yawning at your ceaseless pontifications. You say stuff that has is so factually inaccurate that it has just become boring to read what you type. Like this case. karo was talking to thrifty in that post not me. Can you ever get any facts right?

sass, those cars built in Alabama are built by Americans just like the cars built in Detroit. I don't even know why we are getting all worked up over this. Does anyone posting here really believe that the Big 3 aren't going to get a bailout, loans, or whatever it will be called. Not that it will do any good. We'll be right back here again in a few years when they burn through all this new cash.

sass, you've got to consider the source though...you're deep in union country so is what you are hearing biased?...not saying it is, you just have to ask that question

i agree with you about buying american but you just can't buy american just to be buying american...the reliability of toyota has been known for years...i agree GM has improved it's products from a decade ago but it takes time to overcome that stigma

Hyway - I know it was a dig at me.

The point is that you're so dismissive of the lives of others that you'd rather do that than respond to the fears and concerns of those directly affected by this stuff.

Thrifty, what do you know about the reliability of Toyota this year? It's slipping and consumers don't even care because they think they know.

I heard the interviews on NPR (my choice for news). I guess they could be biased but it was a national program (talk of the nation to be exact), not a locally produced show.

The profit goes where Hyway? Not to Alabama, or the United States.

funny how the instigators, sassafras, lumberzac and MarkO, who were unprovoked, are the ones asking the person they're flaming, to leave

Hyway is living fat and he can't understand why everyone else ain't.

My personal experience as a Teamster truck driver at two different jobs bears no resemblance to the anti-union tales.
Those tales are told by the ideologically-driven who always have and always will hate organized labor regardless of reality or individual circumstances.

At both of those jobs the companies and the union worked rather well together.
There was no coddling of thieves or of the lazy or inefficient.
There was however fair representation and due process, something that is more often than not lacking in a job where the worker is at the mercy and the whim of sometimes psychotic managers and their lackeys.

This article from 2006 is interesting.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/18/AR2006081801384.html

although foreign car makers are building up plants, it's a fraction of what the US automakers employ - and also the reasearch and development work is overseas, as are many of the parts manufacturers.
