“Plain and simple: people are sick of the political machine in D.C. and the ingrained career politicians. They want someone who hasn't been heavily tainted by lobbyist bribes or beholden to special interests. I think this is exemplified by Iowa. However, if you look at the numbers, Huckabee got nominated by the evangelicals, much like Obama got nominated by the youth who are sick of white old men running the show.

Kleetn hit the nail on the head. Really, what does political experience have to do with anything these days? It didn't do jack for the current dimwits in the White House. I will concut that Thrifty has a point about executive experience and here, Huckabee has a leg up on Obama.

Bottom line, this election is gonna pretty different because I think people are sick of the typical retreads getting into office, and especially the Clinton/Bush dynasties.”

“i feel most comfortable with a candidate who has shown how he/she will act in high pressure situations...think of something like 911, plug in your favorite candidate and imagine (truthfully) how he/she might react...or maybe a veto situation, a controversial bill barely passes the house and senate do to lobbying and special interest...does your candidate have what it takes to let the ax fall (hypothetical question for all candidates, not just obama)

“The point was made in analysis last night -again and again - the Obama's campaigning on change... and that people want change.

As I noted on the other side, I grew up in Iowa and didn't see a black person in my community until I was in high school - and she was an exchange student. It's not prejudicial, it's just the way it was. And still is, somewhat.

I'm proud that tihs "white breadbasket" Iowa selected a black man. I think it bodes well for Obama's campaign. He certainly represents change.

As for myself, I haven't decided, but Obama was not on my radar. I thought he was the guy with the funny name and funny ears (heard him make fun of them on some late night talk show himself).

In the past few weeks, the more I hear and learn, I found myself thinking, "He's different. Could be what we need."

How many others is this occuring to? Apparently quite a few Iowans.... how many more? This campaign will be interesting.

I feel it's the people you delegate your duties to that will help a president run the country. If you're good at delegating and have good people, you're in. However, you can't be an idiot at the core, not to name any current governing officials, ;-P. LOL!”

Governors have the advantage of basically touting education and state unemployment rates from their governor days, without having to take stands on national issues (like Huckabee recently calling for stricter border security to keep Pakistani terrorists from invading the U.S., or last month not even knowing the new National Intelligence Estimate had come out).

Indeed. That's my point. It's an interesting choice of words. It's a cold day in hell when a white person is said to be "well-spoken", unless they're like 5. As soon as a black person can speak without saying "yo, whassup?!" (Condi Rice), they're said to be "well-spoken". To me it's a shining example of a hidden bias to say that. (in case you didn't get the sarcasm)

It would be nice if we could elect the man because he has principles or good ideas on how to run the country, not because he's "a well spoken black man".

He's only half-black anyways, so they shouldn't be saying that. I think it's the nappy hair that gets people excited about his well-spokenness. If he had straight hair, they'd just think he was possibly a muslim and we could focus more on that.

Obama has said that he would propose direct talks with national leaders with whom the U.S. has disputes, such as the leader of Iran.

"they" didn't say that, you did..."they" said he's a well spoken man (no black adjective)...he's better spoken than the other canidates, regardless of race...when you use black when it's not relative to the comment it sounds like you're saying "he's a good speaker (despite) being black"
