When does sensorship become sensorship? If someone says something and someone else comes along and decides it fits into some specific category and then decides it is inappropriate, and therefore strikes the original statement, that is sensorship isn't it? That seems to border on restricting freedom of speech...jmo

AFAIK censorship has to do with government saying something can not be distributed. In other words, for a community at large to set community standards for speech is not censorship. For a governmental body to unilaterally declare certain standards of speech is. It can get somewhat confusing.

This issue impacts those of us who deal with controversial topics in the pursuit of our vocation. I am sure my "legalese" is incorrect but I believe the core concept is.

Freedom of speech is a term generally reserved for talking about governments, not websites.

True freedom of speech means the government would let the website post whatever it wanted to, and didn't want to, on it's own website.

Censorship occurs when any authority limits what may be published.

In the US, the government is restricted in what it can "restrict" by the First Amendment.

Companies, on the other hand, can restrict publication of virtually anything that reflects upon the company.

A website can damn well do as it pleases.

Weren't we all waiting for the expert of making completely unprovoked personal attacks to chime in?

You people who complain about what goes on on this site - now's your chance. No matter who he was talking to, you know it wasn't right. Say something to toejam instead of letting it go on. Nobody will, but I'd be remiss if I didn't point it out. Carry on.
