Mt Washington trip picsView Messages“Here's my pics from the Mt Washington winter climb this past weekend. Mt Washigton pics It was a great winter day on Mt Washington. Lots of snow, but the temps were mild for Washington, and the winds "only" hit around 50-60 mph on the summit. Myself, Crazypace, Swampy, and Precision made it to the summit. last edited: 1/09/08 3:28:47 PM” 3:27:15 PM 1/09/08 “wow, awesome pics.. I am kicking myself hard for not going up with you guys, but I think I made the right decision, all things considered.” 3:41:43 PM 1/09/08 “Don't worry about it. The mountain will still be there. It's not going anywhere.” 3:45:29 PM 1/09/08 “Nice pics Pennsy, it makes it look like such a nice day up there. Funny you can't see how windy it was.” 5:50:56 PM 1/09/08 “nice...too bad that you had to share the space on the picture with a thumb. :(” 5:54:11 PM 1/09/08 “How cold was it?” 5:55:59 PM 1/09/08 “Nice pictures. I need to get back up to the Whites some time soon.” 6:04:02 PM 1/09/08 “Great pics - looks like you guys had a great time.” 8:39:56 PM 1/09/08 “Awesome pics Pennsy.” 4:33:30 AM 1/10/08 “the coldest was Thursday mite camping inside the truck -- negative 9. Seems like the rest of the time it was mostly in the teens and 20's” 4:44:31 AM 1/10/08 “Cool pics. Looks like you guys lucked out with the "winds". I've been hiking with you before where the "winds" are terrible!” 5:16:46 AM 1/10/08 “That's why it's sometimes best to hike in front.” 5:19:31 AM 1/10/08 “I checked those out last night when I saw them pop up on Webshots. Very nice! Ghe-orgeous day for a climb! What a beautiful area. Someday I'll be back. :)” 5:55:45 AM 1/10/08 “LOL @ the Pennsy & thumb pic!!” 6:04:52 AM 1/10/08 “OMG how wonderful!!!!...thanks for sharing!!!” 6:12:24 AM 1/10/08 wow. “I am such a whackjob that these pictures made me depressed. My best hiking buddy has moved. It has been two Novembers since we've done our traditional (16 years or more)ADK or White Mountains "almost winter" backpack. I still get out myself and with other friends, and with my kids . .. but boy . .. . those are some great pictures. Good for you guys.” 6:42:22 AM 1/10/08 “Too bad Pennsy messed up that great picture of my thumb by getting in the way !! Otherwise, nice pics. I have alot of pics too, but I'm too retarded to post em.” 6:46:38 AM 1/10/08 “looks like y'all had a great time. I'm quite jealous” 7:04:49 AM 1/10/08 “Yes you are, Crazy Pace!” 7:17:41 AM 1/10/08 “Wow.........” 7:37:21 AM 1/10/08 “when I took some pics of the other climber at the summit I thumbed it a few times too. winds blowing like it was yer more concerned about feet placement than thumbs lol I eventually got the shot tho” 8:18:04 AM 1/10/08 “Oooohhh Eastern Presidential Porn... :) Those are some great pictures...and sounds like you got really like with the weather.” 9:10:25 AM 1/10/08 “crazypace gots video.. he just needs to learn how to post it.” 9:14:08 AM 1/10/08 “Awesome, great pics. I know that climb can be a buttkicker in good weather, let alone winter conditions. The approach alone is over 3 miles.... How was the winter route, and where did it meet up with the summer Lions head?” 9:50:18 AM 1/10/08 “Great pics. It's a tough enough climb with no snow on the ground.” 10:11:03 AM 1/10/08 “I hope this works. Here are my pics and 2 vidoe clips. http://community.webshots.com/album/562122266aKEhQW?start=0” 3:47:20 PM 1/13/08 “Cool pics and vids. When I went through there in '06 it was August. The wind was blowing and there was actually snow flurries on top of MT. Washington. I really want to go back there again sometime.” 3:58:31 PM 1/13/08 “Holy moly, Crazypace figured out how to upload pics and create a link. What's this world coming to? Nice job though, and I like the audio of the wind blowing. Or was that me wheezing? Coco - I don't know the summer route having never climbed Washington from Pinkham before, but I'll fathom a guess. When the Tuck's wide trail came to a T, we turned right, heading towards the Harvard Cabin, and then turned left up a narrow trail. Maybe that's the winter route? If so, it was narrow, making passing difficult. The travelling wasn't too difficult though. There was lots of snow but it was well packed. It got fairly steep with a few scrambles to deal with, but nothing technical.” 5:06:19 PM 1/13/08 “those are pretty darn tootin pics and so was the wind!!!” 5:14:52 PM 1/13/08 “Schweeeet!” 6:59:49 PM 1/13/08 “I thought Precision took some pics too ?” 7:19:24 AM 1/14/08 “Nice pictures! Lots of snow on the ground up there.” 7:22:43 AM 1/14/08 “Wow, what a great day to climb a mountain! Crazy Pace's video sure put paid to my misconception of there being no wind! The video on top really showed just how large that whole set-up is...I had no idea! Thanks for posting the TR's and pics...I really enjoyed them...oh, question...are these trails in a ski resort? I am not familiar with the area....” 7:50:57 AM 1/14/08 “Ski resort, but I have no idea which one or what mountain that is. I do know that was south of Mt. Washington.” 8:57:33 AM 1/14/08 Wildcat “The ski area is Wildcat mountain. It is due East/northeast of Washington. The parking lots are just north of Pinkham notch, on the opposite side of the road. The view South of the Summitt would be off towards Bretton Woods ski area. Not sure how visible it is from the summitt. The Wildcat/Carter range is a group of 4000 foot peaks. A little less traveled, great views back towards wshington. Wildcat can be a bear to ski. It is rugged, not as much grooming (back in the day) and it can be brutally cold weather wise. It gets everything Washington doesn't block.” 9:02:52 AM 1/14/08 “Great pics, guys. Thanks.” 9:05:31 AM 1/14/08 “Crazy . . The ski area. From where did you take that picture? Were you on Lion's head, looking straight out (back in the direction of your ascent/descent?). If so, you were facing East and its Wildcat. If it is from the summitt (although the terrain would seem to be more in keeping with the Alpine garden than the sumitt) and you were facing the side of the mountain that the Cog RR descends, (not the side where it arrives)it could be Bretton woods.” 9:05:35 AM 1/14/08 “that is a pretty nice pic!!” 10:13:26 AM 1/14/08 “I guess it would be east. I was heading up and looking back toward Pinkham notch.” 11:18:43 AM 1/14/08 “Thats lookin east, prob from just below Lions head if I remember right. Hiking up those ski slopes is the quickest (shortest) way to bag the 2 Wildcat peaks!” 12:45:59 PM 1/14/08 “That's definately the Wildcat ski area in our pics, taken near Lion's Head and looking east. There was very little pic taking on the summit cuz of the wind. Hiking up those ski slopes is the quickest (shortest) way to bag the 2 Wildcat peaks!” Yeah, but the "funnest" way is up the Wldcat Ridge Trail. Weeeeeeeeeee!!” 1:08:12 PM 1/14/08 “Very nice. Did you happen to go the weekend the moon was massive? I was up on Liberty then. Here's a picture: [url]http://picasaweb.google.com/charterst/Dec072/photo#5155003285939763202” 1:08:50 PM 1/14/08 “Sorry, looks like a screwed that up. Cut/paste the link will work.” 1:10:16 PM 1/14/08 “I heard some people talking about the Wildcat Ridge Trail in the visitor center, what makes it so fun?” 1:14:18 PM 1/14/08 “Nice photos Crazypace.” 1:22:07 PM 1/14/08 “I heard some people talking about the Wildcat Ridge Trail in the visitor center, what makes it so fun?” Note that I used quotations marks around fun. There's the stream crossing at the very beginning and then it's steep as hell. Nhiker - I didn't notice the moon. It could have been massive. I am not always the most attentive one around.” 1:35:32 PM 1/14/08 “I figured that's ENS type "fun" I'm toying with going to Cater Notch hut, and bagging the Wildcats, via the ridge trail, but then again up and down the slopes would be a LOT shorter/easier esp with all the snow last edited: 1/14/08 2:03:57 PM” 2:01:23 PM 1/14/08 “yeah, I like that kind of fun.” 4:15:01 PM 1/14/08 “Coco - a few of us stayed at Carter Hut on New Year's weekend a few years ago. We had a blast. We dayhiked 3 days while at the Hut, did a few of the Carters (Carter Dome twice), and the Wildcats. It was nice turning around at the last Cat, thus avoiding the "fun" part.” 4:25:42 PM 1/14/08 “Here's the moon pic NHiker was trying to post. Wow, that IS massive! ![]() Well crap, that red X isn't massive at all. :o( Let's a try a linky poo last edited: 1/14/08 4:32:06 PM” 4:30:46 PM 1/14/08 << back to Mt Washington climb page
