I mean lets look at this honestly. A snowball in hell would be more likely than some of the guys voting for anything but a Republican. Even giving them the benefit of the doubt, the cnadidate would have to be a v v right-wing democrat.

I've heard a bunch of them complaining that the last administration hasn't been conservative enough for them.

wanderer - don't confuse his positions on his website with real life ... of which ... he has nothing to compare to.

Sarge, I have a tendency to give a candidate the benefit of doubt and trust that what they're posting on their website is accurate.

People do change their views from time-to-time, it's not always "flip-flopping", sometimes it's just learning something new, or a better way to accomplish the end goal!

wanderer,

Don't you think they should have some experience running something before trying to run the country?

I mean, you have to work your way up at Wal-Mart, right? This is the country!

not sure if that was directed at me but what gives you the idea i'm a repub?...my favorite, evan bye (a dem by the way) dropped out months ago and i've been "undecided" ever since...i guess it's really not up to me now though since my state has virtually no say in the primary

i stand corrected, it was directed at surge who definitely tows the repub line...makes more since now

I'm for Ron Paul just for the monkey wench it would throw into American politics. Obama doesn't strike me as someone who won't eventually wake up one morning, look at himself in the mirror and wonder how he became just like every other president seduced by the system.

As I've stated on here quite extensively, I'm supporting Ron Paul.

Sure there can be propaganda, and I'm sure there can be bias on wikipedia and other sources.

But if you want to know a candidate's position, what better way than to hear it directly from him or her? If you totally disregard that, do you really have an open mind about what they have to say anyways?

I was going to be a total arse on this issue but I'll just say this,I am a republican that doesn't always vote repuplican and I don't totally agree with any of the candidates this time BUT I could not live with myself if I voted for a Muslim when they've caused us so much trouble.

See I wouldn't necessarily track voting records as anything more than a general guide, and that goes for both sides. There are reasons people vote for and against things as part of the horse-trading that is Capitol Hill. It's part of the bi-partisan working together that everyone seems to want.

you put too much store in voting histories then you discount anyone with any experience even having a chance of being President - any length of time in congress will just see you loading the gun for the attack ads after you vote for something as a deal is pulled together so the government can go on working, or you vote against something because some senator tries to attach some crappy rider to the bill to sneak it through.

I didn't post this as fuego because, an important issue to the backpacking and hiking community on this board is the health and vitality of our nation's wilds and back country and I wanted to say that I think Obama is a candidate who will work hard for the environment and the wild areas of the US.

I thought it was too important for fuego, since fuego is patrolled by the same old same old.

Personally, I want a candidate elected president who will consider the environment a top issue and priority.

Also, I am not a big fan of Hillary Clinton. I really do not see much difference between her and GWB. I think if she were elected, it would be more of the same. I want someone fresh. Someone new, someone inspirational, so one who cares, someone who will get things done.

The last 8 years have evolved into lack of progress on both sides of the aisle. Nothing good has been accomplished. Democrats and Republicans in the federal government have failed this country since 2000.

I think Obama will change that. I think he will bring our country together.

I believe the environment's vitality is the biggest threat facing our nation today and it can't be ignored. It is increasingly important to me to have a good president now that I have a child coming and a family. I care more than ever.

I didn't post the thread to say who is wrong and who is right or slam anyone for what they believe, granted that is bound to happen on any thread that involves politics, but I think the health of the environment is a huge concern for people who enjoy the wilderness, dem or repub or whatever.

What ever the reason for global warming, human or natural, we need to keep it from warming any further or the results will be catastrophic, maybe not for us, but probably our children and maybe us. I don't want my child to suffer because we didn't do what we could have to correct the situation when we could have.

Voting green is like voting for the republicans.

Ya gotta ask, of the two parties (and let's face it, we do only have a two party system at this time), who's gonna be a bigger friend to the environment? Look at the historical record for the past 50 years. It clearly is the Democrats.
roseymonster

Pennsylvania will go democrat in 2008 anyway, that is a given. If Hillary eventually is the Democratic nomanee, she will win PA. My vote to the green party will be about getting them party funding from the federal government.

I would rather Hillary than any of the republicans. If I had to choose a republican, I would vote McCain, but I do not expect him to get the republican nomination.

If I were a betting man, I would bet the next president is going to be a democrat.

Actually, Rosey, if you look at current legislation, the best environmental stuff in the country is that which was promoted by our good ol' Governator!! (A Republican!)

The Gropeinator just shot himself in the foot by slashing education, healthcare and welfare because taxing the Indian casinos didn't pan out like he wanted. He could very well lose the next election over that.

Anyway, CA was already headed down that environmental road long before Shwarzengroper stepped in and really can't be credited entirely to Mr. Hummah-driver. Don't think for a second that he hasn't seen the research and knows that 85% of Californias want to protect the environment.

Anyway, I was talking on a federal level.

I have been impressed with Arnold's environmental proposals (although, well said rosymonster). I did not expect them from him. I have not seen much from any others and I have looked at the republicans webpages and some of them don't even mention the environment as an issue, ie Huckabee. I was surprised when McCain mentioned climate change in his speech the other night.

Rosey, please try to get your head out of your azz for a moment and actually THINK for a change.

1. Stop with the gropinator crap (a) that's not we're talking about here and personal attacks don't show you off very well. If those acqusations had been proven then he'd be in prison now, not our Governor, so stop your BullSHt acqusations - just because you don't agree with him doesn't give you the right to act like a horses butt.

2. The slashing education, etc., stuff is, again, a different subject. Can you try, just once, to stay on-task?

3. I wasn't saying Arnold was the the inventor of environmental regs, but if "CA was already headed down that environmental road", you should give him credit for listening to what people want and doing something positive about it!! That's what a good politician is supposed to do!!

EarthNsky says that in the last 8 years, " Nothing good has been accomplished".

Huh?

The U.S. and the world has done quite well in the last seven years with Bush as President.

In the U.S. more than 1.4 million acres has been designated U.S. wilderness lands, which is now at an all time high. It would take a backpacker a lifetime just to visit each acre added to the wilderness under Bush.

Wood inventory in the National Forests is increasing.

The largest marine sancuary in the world has been created.

The air is the cleanest it has been since the EPA has been measuring air quality.

25 million Afghans have been freed from tryanny.

30 million Iraqis have been freed from tyranny, and Iraqi incomes have doubled.

Brought freedom and democracy to the middle east.

The U.S. economy has kept expanding and is at an all time high GNP.

The stock market hit all times highs.

Unemployment is lower now than for the averages in the last 30 years.

More Americans now own homes than at any time in the Nations history, and minority home ownership is at an all time high.

Two terrorist supporting regimes, Iraq and Afghanistan, are now terrorist fighting allies.

Over 3/4 of al Qaeda's leadership has been killed or captured.

Not a single foreign terrorist, despite a lot of trying, has been successful in killing a single American on U.S. soil since 9-11-01.

Bush's policies got Kadaffi gave up his nearly complete nuclear weapons program started during the Clinton Administration.

Bush's policies got Iran to stop its nuclear bomb program, all without firing a shot.

Buhs got North Korea to begin to disassemble their nuclear bomb facilites built during the Clinton administration.

Got the Patriot Act made permanent.

The administration's No Child Left Behind helped push the ACT college entrance exam scores to the biggest increase in 20 years, and recorded the highest scores of any class in the last 15 years.

Cut waste in government to be on track to balance the budget.

And, cut taxes.
