he is the man I feel will be the one for the job and he will work to make our backcountry protected and keep it pristine. He will be the best environmental president.

Please consider him while voting in the primaries.

I'm leaning towards Obama.

Otherwise I'm thinking of McCain.
Bloomberg is also a good choice.

Sarge,

I would agree his lack of general government administrative experience could be a cause for concern and may hurt his campaign.

My feeling is nobody who is a supporter really gives a crap at this stage and in some regards, many look at his lack of government cronyism as refreshing and a benefit.

I've been a Republican my entire life. The Qualifying experience O has is not being in the back pockets of every politician in DC. He is the only candidate who would not be beholden to either machine , ergo more free from pressure and able to make judgment calls. Just MHO.

i look at it as scary...if you're going to be the leader of one of (if not the) most powerful countries in the world i think you need to have a track record of being able to make big decisions before you get the job

I don't think "lack of experience" qualifies as "experience", but I see you guys's points. You like that? "You guys's?" It's so silly.

a question for Obama supporters
1. Obama is against reducing federal spending to help balance the federal budget.
Q: How in the world can you oppose reducing some of the wasteful spending our gov't does? At least eliminate the pork-barrel spending!

2. Obama is in favor of allowing illegal aliens to get Social Security benefits.
Q: How can you justify /defend giving these benefits to someone who doesn't contribute? Especially when SS is going broke & those who DID contribute are in danger of not getting their benefits!

3. Obama is in favor of partial birth abortions.
Q: This isn't an abotion issue, partial-birth abortion is murder, even many abortion proponents agree with that! How can you defend murdering innocent people and be against capital punishment for folks like the jerk who beheaded Meredith on Blood Mountain?

Help me understand!

How can you reconcile your views on abortion with saying it's ok for a bunch of people to get together in a room or two and decide to kill another? Help me understand? It's whether YOU decide it was right for someone to die or not huh?

If you want to learn about Obama's positions, take the time to go there and then make your decision.

A post on a thread is rarely a reliable reflection on a candidate's positions.

You'll see Obama is very much against wasteful spending.

First of all, you don't know my views on abortion, stop making assumptions.

Second, the people who gather together in the room don't decide to kill someone, the murderer decided that when he took someone elses life! All the people in the room decide is if he is guilty beyond doubt, the LAW is that he then be sentenced to death!

Are you kidding me? This Republican president (ya know, the Grand Ole Pennypinchers), made history by sending the national debt into a record high.

The Repubs cannot seriously talk about fiscal conservativism and not be laughed outta the room.

Rosey, see if you can stick to the subject for once. I was not defending GW or anyone else, I've posted here numerous times that I never voted for that jerk. What I was saying is that we should eliminate wasteful spending as part of the solution to our financial problems, what's wrong with that?

ABC News poll..... Do you think abortion should be legal?

Yes in all or most cases - 55%

The Harris Poll. Oct. 16-23, 2007. N=1,052 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.

.

"In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that states laws which made it illegal for a woman to have an abortion up to three months of pregnancy were unconstitutional, and that the decision on whether a woman should have an abortion up to three months of pregnancy should be left to the woman and her doctor to decide. In general, do you favor or oppose this part of the U.S. Supreme Court decision making abortions up to three months of pregnancy legal?"

Favor - 56%

most polls I just showed here say the majority of Americans are in favor of a woman's right to choose. Thriftyhiker is wrong.

Thifty - and this particualar society has decided the supreme court is the vehicle to make the decision.

My general point is that laws are a human invention that vary over time and location. To hold something up as right because it's the law makes it difficult to label anything else that's within the law as being a crime.

i like to cut and paste too:

Los Angeles Times Poll:
This was taken on 2005-JAN-14 to 18. They asked 1,118 randomly selected American adults the question: "Which comes closest to your view on abortion: abortion should always be legal, or should be legal most of the time, or should be made illegal except in cases of rape, incest and to save the mother's life, or abortion should be made illegal without any exceptions?"

Results:

41% favored making abortion illegal with a few exceptions.
24% favored making abortion always legal
19% favored making abortion legal most of the time.
12% favored making abortion totally illegal.

Margin of error ±3% percentage points. It is notable that 12% of American adults would totally prohibit all abortions, including those needed to save the life of the mother.

i was actually pretty surprised at the wide variance of all the polls out there

jmitch, I never go to a politician's website to see where he stands on teh issues. To much propaganda. Until someone shows me somewhere better I have found that wikipedia gives the best overall assessment of a politician's positions. I know that wikipedia is user driven for input and can be manipulated, but it can be manipulated by all parties equally unlike the homepage of the politician. he is in total control of what "facts" get presented.

Check this site and tell me how far off it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Barack_Obama

BTW, of the many things I disagree with Obama, his position on NASA is near the top.

Actually, his positions on his website aren't bad overall, unfortunately I was initially responding a statement made by prosecutor... "Obama is against reducing federal spending to help balance the federal budget."

Looks like that's not accurate if you look at Obama's website. My bad, I "assumed" Prosecutors's post was accurate :(
