I was just railing on to my boys about this the other day.

A woman stopped dead in traffic to let me out of a small shopping center. I couldn't go, of course, there were other people on the road just trying to obey the traffic laws. By stopping and trying to be courteous, she F-ed up traffic for about 5 minutes.


IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY . . .USE IT!!!!!!!!!!

DO DO SOME LAME A$$ HALF-WAY COURTEOUS THING .. .IT F'S EVERYBODY ELSE UP. CAUSES CONFUSION AND CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS.

He must have been working on a graduate degree.

I dunno. It depends on what the light says.


If it dark . ..4 way stop.

If is flashing red all the way around. 4 way stop.


If it is flashing yellow on the main route and red on the secondaries, proceed according (eg, stop if you are approaching the intersection on a secondary road. Proceed with caution if approaching on the main road).


The light near us goes into flashing mode when the power is out. If you stopped on yellow flasher in front of me, I'd ram you.”

I hate when people yield the right of way to me (trying to be nice), it puts me, and everyone else in a more dangerous position.

Speed limit 75. I'm going 80 in left lane. Flow of traffic at the time between 75-80.
A-hole comes up behind me and rides my bumper while honking his horn and flashing his brights. As soon as I pass the person in the right lane, he flies past me on the right, almost taking off my fender, flips me off, and pulls into the lane in front of me and slams on his brakes.

Or how about this one.
Speed limit 55. I'm going 45 with flow of traffic (lite rush hour - usually everyone's going 5-10mph if not stopped) and leaving about a car's length in between me and the car in front of me (rear-end collisions in AZ are incredibly high during rush hour). Same type of a-hole and his reactions, only this time when he pulls into the lane, he has to slam on his brakes to avoid rear-ending the car in front of him. This one happens almost every day.

Arizona Revised Statutes 28-721B says as long as I am going the flow of traffic, I do not have to pull to the right.

It is not YOUR duty to regulate MY speed or what lane I drive in. And if you're going to hit me, cool. I could use a new car at your insurance's expense.

LOL...reminds me of the last time I went to defensive driving (for speeding). 80% of the people in the class were there because they rear ended someone while checking their blind spot during a lane change or because someone closed them off during their lane change and they hit them.”

I've never been in one, but one time when I was in Boston a couple of cars didn't get out of the way of an ambulance. The solution was quite simple, the ambulance went through those cars. lol”

The hypothetical I pose is someone hanging out in the left lane for no reason. Empty road ahead of them, empty lanes beside them.

Don't hang out in the left lane impeding the flow of traffic.


2. ASU Dave -- The two examples you cite are why rear mountain machine guns would be great.

In the 20 years I have been driving into Hartford I would say the average speed of the morning commute has gone up about 15 mph. It used to be the uncommon A-hole who was pushing and weaving in and out who was the only one going 80 or above. Everyone else at 65-70.

Now I look down at my speedometer. In the flow of traffic, neither pushing, nor blocking things up . . . and I can be going between 75-85 no problem. When I look down and am going in excess of 80 in the fast lane, I usually start moving to the right if there is room.

I should drive more slowly. I try to leave as much space as reasonable ahead of me.

(the old 2 second rule) Understanding that as traffic tightens up and slows down you might need to take a more defensive/aggressive position to avoid being swarmed by people.

But in Georgia the lights and siren only are considered a REQUEST that the people give right of way. We are still required to obey all traffic signals etc. Now I did have one SFB who used to pull out (intentionally) infront of the trucks trying to get a "Free MONEY" lawsuit. He had no other occupation than listening to the scanner and trying to get in the way of emergency vehicles. Okay he did have a mother and an ex wife he sponged off of...but other than that...

So one night he raced out in front of my truck...sadly for him there was a Sheriffs office vehicle right behind us. He don't drive no more.....”
