BowlderSon and I went off on our first winter campout of the season over this past weekend. We met Calipidder, Drunken Marmot, and Naviguesser at a Sno-Park trailhead between Shaver and Huntington Lakes along Hwy 168.

It was a very pleasant ski/snowshoe in about 2 miles, where we found an excellent area with several good flat areas for our tents and a kitchen. Once B-Son and I finished our tent setup, we were amazed to see that, not only all of the others had done so as well, but the kitchen/dining area was complete, too!!

We had good times sitting under the 3/4 moon and stars while eating. And eating. And eating some more. To bed at, I dunno, 9? I think Calipidder reported a temp of 15.

The next AM was equally beautiful, and we again ate and ate and ate. The other 3 packed up and headed out by around 11, as they did not have Monday off, like us. So B-son and I put our skis on and went off for a little fun. We found and conquered Tamarack Mt., stopping at the Shaver Lake Overlook on the way. Back by 2 for a late lunch.

The wind was picking up a bit and clouds were arriving, so we remodeled the kitchen to give us a little windbreak. Then we went into the tent and rested a bit. We emerged at about dark to cook and eat as a fog moved in with an occasional snowflake. Once back in the tent after dinner, we played cards for a while, laughed, etc. until we went to sleep about 9 to the sound of granular snowflakes pelting the tent.

Monday AM was nice, as there was about a quarter inch dusting of snow and the sun came out. While packing up, a tent pole slipped out of B-Son's hand while still under tension, and whacked him in the mouth, causing a big ol' fat lip with a small cut and a chipped tooth - we go to the dentist for repairs this morning.

The ski out was OK - the little bit of snow helped on the icy downhill road. The sun came out again as we reached the car.

Weird drive back. We took a wrong turn and added 20 miles of distance to our trip, but at least the "detour" was scenic.

Have him go for the silver cap as the gangster look is highly desirable in today's workforce. I recommend the star or smiley face cut out.

Sounds like a great trip! Thanks for sharing (will check out the pics at home tonight)!
