New to this - looking for a good trailView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 14 of 14 messages posted.
Looking for info on a trip in mid March “I'm looking on going on a 5-7 day backpacking trip in mid march and was wondering if anybody knew of some good trails to take. I'm thinking maybe New Mexico or Utah - somewhere where it isn't too cold at that time. If anybody knows of good trips to take in that area or time of year I'd appreciate your insight. Thanks a bunch!!” 10:24:20 AM 1/27/08 “In March, I'd head for the Gila Wilderness. Be prepared for stream crossings and cool nights.” 10:44:17 AM 1/27/08 “Does "New to this" refer to backpacking or just new to the site? If new to packpacking you might be biting off a considerable chunk with a 5-7 day trip. Perhaps some weekend trips nearby would be worth while.” 11:12:39 AM 1/27/08 “My first trip was as a senior in high school with three friends, 7 nights in Shenandoah National Park. Do your homework and your prep, and you can do it.” 11:14:44 AM 1/27/08 “Do your homework and your prep, and you can do it.” Pathman 2:14:44 PM 1/27/08 agreed did not mean to imply otherwise... I was including the weekenders in with the prep and homework... along with the fun” 11:17:20 AM 1/27/08 “I was including the weekenders in with the prep and homework... along with the fun I forget about that because I started doing overnighters in the backyard in kindergarten and overnighters in the adjacent woods in jr high. :D” 11:34:57 AM 1/27/08 “Well I canoe camped for 12 years before I did my first "Backpacking". I was with a ADK group on the Whites Prez range. What a gas.” 11:37:13 AM 1/27/08 “I'm just new to this site. I'm an experienced backpacker-usually in Wyoming and Colorado. I'm just not familiar with the Southern Rockies. I've done up to 21 days in the backcountry - I'm just looking for a nice week long trip where the days are warm in mid March last edited: 1/27/08 11:54:43 AM” 11:53:04 AM 1/27/08 “I still say Gila Wilderness.” 11:59:56 AM 1/27/08 “The Superstitions in Arizona, possibly southern California, possibly the Gila. We did the first 111 miles of the GET last March - from First Water TH in the Superstitions to Mammoth. There are a lot of options in the Superstitions. Copper canyon in Mexico would be good that time of year. Utah is far enough north you'd still find a lot of snow and cold temps. March is spring break in many places, so be prepared for crowds.” 12:04:13 PM 1/27/08 “SOUTH” 12:09:20 PM 1/27/08 “Thanks everyone - I think I'm going down to Gila Wilderness (Thanks pathman) to check out some of the hot springs!!” 1:55:57 PM 1/27/08 “have a monster of a good time.” 2:03:58 PM 1/27/08 “Gila is a good choice.” 5:06:01 AM 1/28/08
