Superior Hiking Trail - Loops?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 11 of 11 messages posted.
“Can anyone recommend a good two or three day bp loop on the SHT? If not a loop, we're open to out-and-in, we just don't want to hassle w/ a shuttle cause we don't have exact dates and want to be able to head out on short notice. Thanks, in advance.” 12:59:36 PM 1/27/08 “The only loops in the Superior Hiking Trail are day hikes. The shuttle is very convenient, and you can phone in a reservation as you drive up there. If you hike southbound, you can park your car at your selected trailhead, and only the driver has to go back to the car on the shuttle. If you invite a few others to join you, you can do your own shuttle. If you park in a state park, you need a state park sticker. If you park at the SHT trailheads, it is free. There are many good two or three day sections on the Superior Hiking Trail. My favorites are Silver Bay to Finland Recreation Center, and Temperance River State Park to Cascade River State Park. http://www.shta.org/Trail/TrailMaps/index.php” 3:37:31 PM 1/27/08 “Most people on hike in the day anyways, so whats the deal with dayhiking, lol.” 4:13:33 PM 1/27/08 “If ya like, let the board know when you're going, Tarabull, with whatever kind of last-minute notice you might have. I know I'd like to get up that way more this year....” 5:37:20 PM 1/27/08 “Careful, Lizs, you know you can't get there without coming through my country and you know what that means...banjo music.” 5:51:32 PM 1/27/08 “I wrote for info on this a few years back. I have maps and other info if you want it. http://www.northshorevisitor.com/state-parks/crosby-manitou.html” 5:19:21 AM 1/28/08 “Yeah, I've taken the shuttle many times, and is usually very reliable and fairly inexpensive (if you have a larger group, have only one person return to retrieve a vehicle, that way you don't have to pay the fare for the entire group)” 9:38:03 AM 1/28/08 “I usually stash a bike up ahead and pedal back to the vehicle. It's fun, economical and a fair workout.” 9:43:25 AM 1/28/08 “Nimblefoot, well, banjos for sure, but why would I need to go through your country to get there? I may be shorter, but I-35 is wayyyyy faster, I'm pretty certain. You WANT me to come your way, don't you? Just lookin' for an excuse to clean up your bad teeth and pick'n'play a tune... yesssir!” 10:25:42 AM 1/28/08 “My back yard has no geographical boundaries:)” 11:59:41 AM 1/28/08 “thanks for the info and link, everyone. we know, generally, when we plan to head that direction. we just don't know which days or how long we'll hike (or kayak) or which days... etc. if we decide to make the exact plans before we get in the car, we'll post it.” 5:07:29 AM 1/29/08
