Politics Among Campers/Backpackers
I really didn't expect to see much political discussion on a Camping/Backpacking Board. Fascinating...

Seems like a typical cross-section... Some Far Right... Some Left... Some in the middle... and some just don't give a #&%!$...

I am curious about one thing in particular:

Those of you who are nature lovers, campers, hikers, and climbers... yet are also Big "president" Bush fans...

With his desires to drill for oil in Alaska... his more relaxed approach to pollution (let them police themselves)... Etc...

With his environmental record...

How do you square that in your head?

How do you square wanting the government to take away your freedoms?

Good Question. The issues I care about are many. Environmental issues is just one of the things I care about. If the rest of the crap is f-up the environment would end up looking like a third world country. I would consider myself a tree hugger but I don't want the lazy slobs of the world pissing on the tree I want to hug.

Well, I'm not a big Big "president" Bush fan, so I guess I can't answer that question.

I am not a Big Bush fan...hell I wasn't a fan of Bush 41 (and I know him). I teach "management" but I do not run around like chicken little on every little theorietical disaster.

Icky please research your points it will make it easier to discuss. There are two groups here....one go off Facts, Logic etc...the other FEELINGS/Emotion etc.

It's interesting - not to say it doesn't exisit anyway - but the political nature of the board is driven by three posters who are obsessed with 'liberals'. There are a few of us who bite too much on what they post.

They'll claim it's not true, but there was a short spell when they didn't post a few weeks ago, and the political threads just dropped off the list... then they came back.....

Democrats and the media talk about the President's erosion of personal liberties. The Democrats want to reverse the tax cuts. Not much is more an afront to my personal liberty than taking my money away from me.

As far as the President's environmental record it has improved things around here. Restrictions on 4 wheelers in the National Forests has really made a difference.

These are Sarge's contributions to this thread:

1) “How do you square wanting the government to take away your freedoms?” [CHANGE THE SUBJECT]

2) “I wonder how Al Gore squares in his head the fact the George Bush has a more environmentally friendly residence than he does.

LOL” [CHANGE THE SUBJECT AND ATTACK THE OTHER GUY]

3) “Yeah, what are you Mutt, like 5'7"?”
[AVOID THE SUBJECT AND ATTACK THE OTHER GUY]

Classic tactics of the right... Betcha he watches Fox News almost exclusively (with a certain like for O'Liely) and probably likes Rush, too... They both use that style all the time.

It would be nice (and polite) if he would simply answer the question that was asked (or not comment at all)...

Just sayin'...

ickyma - My question was no more of an attack than YOUR question.

Just sayin' ...

Ps - speaking of "it would be nice if he would simply answer the question that was asked", I'm still waiting for your answer on the other thread that you said you would provide.

PS#2 - Hypocrisy defined ...

ickyma - what will normally happen is that sarge will act like an dick questioning everything you say with irrelevant points.

At some point you'll tell him he's being a dick.

He'll then accuse you of making personal attacks.

His response to my post here would probably be that he's said nothing to me, and accuse me of making an unprovoked personal attack - he even started a thread about it.

The echo is noise from Trail Talk's #1 Control Freak and Busy Body.

Perhaps he has nothing better to occupy his time.

I was talking to a Canadian friend just the other day and the conservative party was mentioned.
My friend was quick to point out......."these are not your conservatives!"
