A Lesson For The Thugs

We are here to have conversations with one another. In order to share ideas, learn from each other, and come to an understanding, we all use RHETORIC.

Rhetoric (n) - The art of speaking or writing effectively. (Websters)

According to Aristotle, rhetoric is "the ability, in each particular case, to see the available means of persuasion." He described three main forms of rhetoric: Ethos, Logos, and Pathos.

Pathos
Pathos is appeal based on emotion.

Ethos
Ethos is appeal based on the character of the speaker. An ethos-driven document relies on the reputation of the author.

Logos
Logos is appeal based on logic or reason.

So, I'm just putting this out for some members to read.

When discussing a topic EFFECTIVELY it is important to follow these principles.

When a poster lists a subject of discussion it is important (if you are SINCERE) that adhere to these principles.

The idea on a DISCUSSION BOARD is communication. When someone immediately changes the subject, attacks the initial poster, makes fun of the subject, or otherwise strays from the initial intent of the subject, that person is in fact trying to DESTROY COMMUNICATION.

Such person(s) are endeavoring to break down communication and understanding.

Such persons(s) are ineffective communicators and are not likely to get their own ideas across EFFECTIVELY nor are they likely to contribute anything meaningful.

Regarding the word THUG - Good point! I stand corrected.

Regarding Big Gov't... Raygun and Bush have MASSIVELY INCREASED the size of Gov't... So they can't be admirable to you...
Ron Paul talks like he wants to reduce the size of Gov't, and I tend to think he's sincere about this... so, Libertarian seems to be more to your liking.

I do think Gov't should be responsible for certain things... Defense, for instance. Protecting the forests? Ayep.”
