Crazy night- those storms and tornadoes did a hurting - Personally, I just unplugged EVERYTHING, got the battery lanterns out and watched as much of it through the windows as I could until it became more close/violent. The cats got into thier carriers in thier safe room, and this morning poor Juju stressed out so much she crapped in there. At least it was an easy cleanup after the storm for me. I want to know if my friends elsewhere had to deal with this and how did it go?

Her post on myspace.

Chili, you guys had bad storms in Townsend, too? I guess I thought you were sheltered from the mtns. or somethin.

We get a lot of straight line wind. Down at 1800' (Townsend) it isn't much of a problem, but as it pushes up the mountain to about 3000' and above in increases in velocity and blowdowns are common.

To my knowledge, there has never been a recorded instance of a tornado in Tuckaleechee Cove (Townsend); Cades Cove; or Wear's Valley.

I am Here!! And All is Good in my HOOD
Never mind that Crashie in foriegn land - he no Gung Hoy Fat Choy party. I am glad I live on a hill facing three other hills. It's the electrical stuff that does the damage. So far this year blown modem, breaker switch and thermostat weirdness all connected with t-storms. Fortunately my new job is with a company that does ENS software so I hear well in advance and can prepare. That didn't help me with the wierdness mentioned above because I was still on medical leave.

It got rough here Tue. night. I did hear our tornado siren at 2am the next morning. Local radar showed a cell with possible rotation near Leiper's Fork and headed northeast. I just went back to sleep as this was the last of the storm front.
I returned to work on Thur. after 10 months on layoff. One lady lost a family member in the storms. And a good friend woke up Sun. morn then had a fatal heart attack, it was humbling to say the least. Out of 2,400 off work, 30 will never return.
