Thank goodness Heath Shuler was elected to Congress in NC. I think he and Lamar Alexander pretty much put this to bed.

In 1978, the Park Service began providing transportation for cemetery decorations. In the 2004 fiscal year, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park spent nearly $34,000 to transport people to the cemetery decorations. This is to continue even after the cash settlement.”

This is a hot issue in Bryson City. Some folks will never get over the fact the road isn't going to be built.

At $34,000 per year, the NPS can shuttle for the next millineum and still be better off financially as opposed to trying to build a road across that terrain.
