Bping threads that have been posted in the last few days drop off like rocks...” 1:40:38 PM 2/08/08 “At least we have a trip page.” 1:50:29 PM 2/08/08 “This place hasn't been a backpacking forum for years.” 1:51:47 PM 2/08/08 “Silly libbies” 1:52:28 PM 2/08/08 “Silly backpackers!” 2:04:13 PM 2/08/08 “what's "Bping"?” 2:05:18 PM 2/08/08 “the magazine site is now the bping forum for the masses. This is some other kind of forum - mainly for useless banter and keeping track of ENS and Lyra's baby progress!” 2:11:23 PM 2/08/08 “Your just mad that maple didn't knock you up.” 2:13:10 PM 2/08/08 “hmmm, mad.... thankfull.... the two emotions are soooo similar, it's hard to tell.” 2:15:33 PM 2/08/08 “Tech, it took you this long to figure that out? ;-)” 2:18:14 PM 2/08/08 “More BS, Less Hiking” 2:20:04 PM 2/08/08 “I thought Bping was supposed to be pronounced phonetically, and was used as an edit function for this forum. You know like when someone says a bad word on Cops, and they "beep" it out. Have I been wrong for the last 2 years?! WTH is going on!” 2:25:05 PM 2/08/08 “In leest ever buddy still got stinky butts. ummmmmmmmm... STINKY BUTTS! (o:3” 2:31:05 PM 2/08/08 “Sheeeyat, I'm goin' backpackin' this weekend!” 2:58:14 PM 2/08/08 “it's not about backpackING... it's about backpackERS the web site is "thebackpackER.com" not "thebackpackING.com". anything that is attached to the social circle of people that backpack is fair game.” 3:19:39 PM 2/08/08 “I agree, this is a backpackers forum, not a backpacking forum. You could always go over to backpack.com and talk about backpacking there with people who don't backpack.” 3:24:41 PM 2/08/08 “Well said Yogi and Dub. I think that is the best description I've heard.” 3:31:51 PM 2/08/08 “techntrek is right on with his statement....If you think you are a backpacker you may be using this site....But if you know you are a backpacker, you are Backpacker.com............ I have said this before in this Forum and i will say it again...several of you just like cutting folks down and beating up on people......most of the threads in the past 3 years now have been pure Trash.....there are a few dedicated backpackers still keeping this site afloat but the numbers are decreasing . Most who want to slam me are likely to be non backpackers just and setting at home taking punches like a bully....nanananana nanananana nanananana you can't get me, unless you get off your hump and go to a trail...there you will find backers all over from backerpacker.com......blowing all you want a be's off the path...” 4:10:10 PM 2/08/08 “yea....I am on the Trails guite alot and I have never run into you tuckerjoe / Maybe you are hidding like a skeardy cat...” 4:13:24 PM 2/08/08 “Nope, me neither.” 4:21:33 PM 2/08/08 “.But if you know you are a backpacker, you are Backpacker.com.....there you will find backers all over from backerpacker.com......blowing all you want a be's off the path...” Tuckerjoe 4:10:10 PM 2/08/08 And if you don't know what you are talking about, you say stuff like that. Why would you tolerate this bunch of wannabes Tuckerjoe? Why not leave us to our pretending? Maybe over in your backpacker.com womb everyone needs to constantly remind each other how much a backpacker each person is--maybe they think if they tell themselves that enough, eventually they'll start believing it's true. Around here the folks don't seem to need that reassurance or don't need to try to justify their activity to others. If you don't think real backpackers make up a large pct. of the posters here, go ahead and check out. This forum was here before you came along, it will be here when you leave. Don't let the door hit you in the ass. By the way I just came out of the hills about 2 hours ago and I have the muddy Asolos to prove it. last edited: 2/08/08 4:37:38 PM” 4:29:10 PM 2/08/08 “Tuckerjoe complains about people not being nice to him and then proceeds to insult all of us. Nice.” 4:32:28 PM 2/08/08 “Trailtalk isn't the trail, it's the campfire.” 4:38:33 PM 2/08/08 “go to a trail...there you will find backers all over from backerpacker.com......blowing all you want a be's off the path...” Tuckerjoe 5:10:10 PM 2/08/08 Perhaps you should sign up for a trip like the bearmagathon and show us just how badly we can get blown off the trail. I post here frequently, and I backpack at least once a month. Furthermore I do not involve myself in any of the arguments that go on here, and am not in the minority in those actions. Please rethink your post. Such broad generalizations about a large group of people based upon the actions of a few are incorrect, and prejudice. This is the only forum that I regularly post on and am proud to know these folks. There are some very accomplished hikers here, and some real athletes as well. Clearly you are making comments about people you don't know anything about. People I'm proud to call my friends. This is very much, a community, with all the facets of such. There are bound to be arguments, but here they are not edited and sterilized like they are on many other sites. If you don't like that, don't go away angry... just go. But perhaps you would like to stick around and really get to know us and see that we talk about all the facets of our lives here not just one, and that is what makes this place beautiful. Many people put their heart into what is posted here. It's real.” 4:42:21 PM 2/08/08 “It's funny Tuckerjoe, I originally went over to backpacker.com before I came here. I even went on a trip with somebody. But I almost never go over there anymore because the hateful arguing over there makes trailtalk look like kindergarten. Each time I've gone back and checked it out, same thing. I did enjoy their "chat" feature, and would often chat with a few "cool" individuals that didn't get into the mean-spirited debates, but they seemed to be the exception to the rule from my perspective. Hike your own hike. last edited: 2/08/08 4:49:20 PM” 4:48:09 PM 2/08/08 “Tuckerjoe is clearly a troll, and he's just sucked us all in. Damnit. That makes two times I let it happen. Shame on me.” 4:49:03 PM 2/08/08 “can we say ass hole on this board anymore? why yes! yes we can! last edited: 2/08/08 4:49:36 PM” 4:49:22 PM 2/08/08 “I was in such a good mood too, and then I let myself get trolled! Phuk! Oh well. Moving right along...” 4:55:00 PM 2/08/08 “meangreen - "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."” 4:55:46 PM 2/08/08 “What? I've heard "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". Is that what you meant?” 5:00:34 PM 2/08/08 5:24:43 PM 2/08/08 “My favorite thing about the other side is their posts to trips ratio. Preacher had nearly 5,000 posts on bp.com and did his first trip in 10 years with us, forgot his stove as well as some other important gear, took the 3 mile shortcut on a 7 mile trail and then left early. Just think of how many other people over there with thousands of posts are offering advice to people on gear and backpacking when they don't practice it. If Fridge, GatherNoMoss, or Gemini told me a piece of gear was crap I'd believe them because I've hiked with them and I know they would have actually used it vs. just reading the specs and spouting them back online. Tuckerjoe must not be at 5,000 posts yet over there so he can do his first trip, so he must not like it that he's not a real backpacker yet.” 6:45:56 PM 2/08/08 “Dub speaks true!!! I don't think Preacher had fun!!! I was barfin my guts out every 2 minutes and I still did more hikin' LOL!” 7:49:37 PM 2/08/08 Thar be backpackers here! “You can easily find backpackers here when you're doing a trip, all ya gotta do is ask. Every Winterfest, at least 6 or more from here would show up. Some folks came from across the country. I quit posting trips over there, no one ever signed up. I figured it was because I wasn't one of the cool guys. My post count is in the hundreds. I feel so inadequate. I'll get over it :-) last edited: 2/08/08 8:46:55 PM” 8:43:10 PM 2/08/08 MtnSteve! Long time no hear! “I too am no longer a backpacker....for 4 weeks only . I have to wait for this stupid cast to come off. Had to back out of a winter trip next week. Couldn't figure out how I could hike in the snow and not get frostbite on the poor little toes hanging out. But I was nice and let my friends use the sled...... last edited: 2/08/08 10:20:51 PM” 10:20:16 PM 2/08/08 SnowDancer! “(AKA Sandyann) How did ya do that? I can sympathize with your forced lay off... I'm still trying to get my knee back in shape after the surgery. Miss ya!” 10:29:51 PM 2/08/08 “Kind of an embarrassing story. We went for a snow shoe adventure kind of late in the day. There were four of us with 3 pairs of show shoes. I figured...wth...use mine I have good boots. I proceeded to post hole all along the way. When we got to the groomed section of the trail I did a silly little 'dance' and landed hard. Needless to say...training for the X-Games is not for the middle aged! ;o) It was a VERY long 3 miles back to the car. Two days later when I went to the doctor I was very surprised and humored to find the ankle was broken with torn ligaments, nerve damage,.etc., etc. So....here I sit whilst my friends enjoy the winter scenery and my Mountainsmith Sled. How are you?” 11:41:59 PM 2/08/08 “Hahahah...I just realized you called me 'Snowdancer' and I hurt myself 'dancing" in the snow....” 11:42:57 PM 2/08/08 we dont backpack? “2/8 - 2/10/08: Candlelight Ski II, (WI) Newport State Park 2/15 - 2/18/08: FYAO VIII (officially!!), (NY) Adirondacks, of course! 2/15 - 2/18/08: MT. My tral name on the other side is different on the other side....I actually have more than 5000 posts and posters like yourself does not mean you are a backpacker...just a troll setting at the computer. Yes crashbang....this forums trip page in the only real source of true life without tearing each other down. Mapleleaf, I did a search on all those names you listed and most of them never participated in many trips here much less on posts....I did find many on the other side and WhiteBlaze..... Seems like when someone comes on like i did, you all forget to beat on ech other and use all your wind on me...LOL....I can take it....makes me know I am taking up your time keeping others from some of your trash. Mapleleaf...I have actually met you , you just don't know who I am from the other side...you're onthe other side more than you are here. Many of you are, but when you get here...it's like a free for all,,,,,Childish...of you.” 4:37:31 AM 2/09/08 “Wow 5000 posts? Good job Jokertoe.” 4:53:29 AM 2/09/08 Tuckerjoe “There are lots of private trips going on around here. Just because you don't see someone's name on a trip it doesn't mean they don't backpack. Get a life man.” 5:20:49 AM 2/09/08 “Oh joy. Yet another I'm more of a hiker than you bull#&%!$ thread. Pardon me if I fail to participate in the annual pen|s measurement.” 5:58:56 AM 2/09/08 “IMHO, I don't sit around the campfire on the trail talking about the merits of my tent or the relative R values or our sleeping bags. I prefer to shoot the #&%!$ and generally just hang out with folks that are alot like me in their enjoyment of backpacking, concern for nature and appreciation of the trail. I don't agree with everyone on every topic, but I enjoy the comraderie and the exchange of ideas that takes place in the back country. I have said it before, and I will say it again.....this site is what it is. I come here because it is as "close to the campfire" as you can get without being there. Dub pretty much nailed it.” 6:14:45 AM 2/09/08 “i have been on a private trip for many years now.” 7:17:36 AM 2/09/08 “I visit both TT and the other side when things get slow at work, and one thing I have noticed is that the other side seems to have more members located west of the Mississippi River and TT has more members East of the river, which is good for me because I am in the East. There may not be a lot of BP talk on here, but people on TT do really backpack, I know I have backpacked with a lot of ya. We will see if the other side really backpacks, they are supposed to be going to Sipsey later in March and I am thinking of going down that weekend also.” 7:34:12 AM 2/09/08 “i have been on backpack trips with many on this board. not only do they backpack but they are fairly experienced at it. there is a lot of sharing of best-practice and everyone seems to have either something to offer or something to learn. we get a newbie now and then, which is a good thing, but there are a lot of solid hikers in this place. it has been a privilege and the best of fortune to get to know everyone i have had a chance to hike with. ok, group hug!” 7:40:25 AM 2/09/08 “Well bless your heart.” 8:09:32 AM 2/09/08
