Isn't that Baltimore where MarkO lives, not the UK? If MarkO were there he'd have called the cop a pig to his face while smiling (and rightly so).

That first cop was a complete jerk. He acts like he is some kind of God or something, but the video doesn't show all of what lead up to the confrontation, but I still think he over re-acted. I believe people should respect the law but not bow to it and cops should show a little respect to people too.

And then the cop would've made him kiss the pavement, rightly so. And then busted him for pot, most likely.

IMO , the cop was clearly out of line (physical force), but from what I've read from Baltimorians, there is little sympathy for those skating punks.

JEESUS...the Cop is driving DR Evil's car (check it out) and you are going to ARGUE with him?

LOL...the sad thinkg I agree that we did not see the whole thing. The other thing none of you who have ever worn the badge (MARKY MARK YOU CAN"T COMMENT YOU HAVE NEVER WORN THE BADGE) is that if you are called by some whiney puss ball citizen and you DON'T do anything your ass is in the sling with your Captain. If you do ENFORCE THE LAW (see thats what law enforcement means) you are a "NAZI" or "FASCIST" ...so gang which will it be....?

OOOOH there is a dilemma. So lets give you guys a scenario.

Its three in the afternoon, you are called to some punks who are DISOBEYING the law, i.e. the agreements we live by in a civil society. They begin arguing with you. Now you know if THEY get the drop on you they will kick the #&%!$ out of you..and laugh at the video.

Let say he was walking up and one of the punks reaches into his jacket near the waist line for something.....

Okay mouseketeers you have 2 seconds MAYBE to make a call....

A. You draw and fire? The punk was getting his cell phone..OOPS

B. You take a second...he draws you die, your wife and children lose their husband/father...in 10 years the punk goes free....

And you guys wonder why Cops are grumpy?

Anyone here ever ridden? NO>> maybe Minish can explain to you guys the danger of being "Andy Griffith" on a major city street.

Mutt what I was trying to explain to anyone NOT in Law Enforcement is the fact that today's kids DON"T respect law enforcement....I have a couple of cases where friends of mine approached obnoxious kids only to be hit, attacked etc.

Sadly you go into the scene initially expecting the WORST. You go in strong or you won't go home.

Yeah these are punk skateboarders....but I bet in a few minutes we can find where they have assaulted a cop and giggled about it.

And you know what...if they did do something I will bet MOMMY AND DADDY will have an attorney in the drop of a hat. '

Its a no win scenario. Sorry but 90% of the time I will come down on the cop's side. I would rather have some punk ass puke's FEEEELINGS hurt one trillion times than have to "subdue" my badge until the funeral.

I agree. I was talking about the physical takedown. It didn't look like the kids were doing anything other than talking back. Admittedly, there could be something we didn't see in the tape that prompted the cop to do that. But, in doing so, the cop opened himself up to a crack on the noggin from one of the other punks. Dumb move. As it was, he appeared to have verbal control over the kids, even though they were mouthing off.

that was more than FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELING getting hurt. that was intimidation and theft. but go ahead and let your paranoia justify it.

we all understand the idea of coming in "hard" or go home in a body bag. thats not some profound revelation that only those of you who are in law enforcement understand. i understand it and see the need for it. but like any stance, you can be excessive with it. i'm an authority in my classroom, but i dont fall off the deep end every time a kid acts like a little jerk. and no, my life's not on the line, but their learning is, and i take that very seriously

and anyways, youre obviously (and even admitted) that youre way too biased to have a valid opinion, because youre "going to side with the officer 90 percent of the time"

Day I did do it for a while in Charleston. I don't do it becuase of the simple double standard we are seeing here. You take a what 2 minute video without any context and you try to apply your values and total absence of experience to what they guys is doing....anyone count the TOTAL number of kids there? Skateboarders usually come in packs. And I have seen videos where eight or ten juvenile punks have kicked the crap out of a cop while passersby just laugh.

SORRY ONE on how many is not fair, if you DO not get their "respect (or fear if you want) there may be a point where you HAVE to go up a level.

Oh I do have body armor, luckily I only have to wear it on "serious scenes" I have been in take down scenes, I have seen weapons drawn and have watched civilians just stand here like Cows as an officer is attacked.

A few years ago we had a female officer get attacked by three "Temple Islam" s-bags. During the attack (which ended up physically removing her from doing her job permenantly) civilians drove by and just gawked. One guy did stop, he drew down with a shotgun on the bro's.

So now we have a dedicated public servant permenantly disabled....anyone want to guess the SLAP on the wrist the scum got?

Oh and crash...until you have actually "HAD TO COME IN HARD" as you say, you don't know the feelings....You haven't a clue what a Law Enforcement officer goes through when he has to unholster his weapon. EVEN if it is a good shoot. He is dragged through the mud. It is crap.

In 1991 we had a Cop in Savannah, a dedicated honorable officer who responded to a 'deranged man" call at a KFC in Savannah GA. When he arrived there is a challenged individual (DRUNKER'n HELL) with a tree limb threatening passers by.

As the officer ( a close friend) went to get out of his car the suspect hit him with the limb. The officer fell back in his car and the suspect came for him again. The cop no laying partially IN HIS CAR, drew his weapon and put three shots in the suspect.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLll The officer went through (he was white the target was black) Department Investigation, Georgia Bureau Investigation, FBI Investigation, THEN the ACLU, and the SCLC and damn near every scum public "feel good" agency crawled his ass. AND THEN...MOMMA done gots her an "TUNNY" to SUE DE CITIE.....For the rest of this officer's life he will have to keep JUST enough money ready that he can fight the YOLANDA suit...that WILL never go to court (hell it would get thrown out in a heart beat) but keeps being renewed and extended. The reason is the TUNNY be hopin the officer will do another shoot then he can 20 or 25 years Later go and requestion what he did that night....

Fair enough.

I totally agree about a lack of context on the video. It does appear though, that the worst these kids are guilty of is being stupid. He seems to take the attitude that these are rude kids and by God it's his duty to smack some respect in them. All his attitude is doing is making 3 punks hate cops. It's a thankless job and the only time they get any attention is when they wind up on a bad video.

I'm likely to side with a the police a high % of the time too, but this isn't one of those times.

a what 2 minute video without any context

you mean the context where the guy has an inferiority complex and just gets off on being a bully because he hates surfer punks because they picked on him and called Fatty McFatt Cheeseburger in jr high, and his wife cheats on him with his desk sargeant and his step-daughter hates him and is going out with some goth marilyn manson wanna-be in fishnets and his son is gay and his dog just died?

crash..that must have been a movie...no in real life it is REAL. You guys are so laughable. Isn't it amazing how much "feel good crap" you can summon for scum but the guy who may end up dying to save a life...you will question him and his intentions...He can't have emotions, for $27,000 a year HE can't be HUMAN..he has to be NICE and SWEET and take the crap.

That's just it, you guys DON't know, you don't have any idea of TRUE respsonsibility. We did a take down on an arsonist one night. We were serving a search warrant, I was there to look for the technical stuff needed for a conviction. As we went in and had the guy secured on a couch his DUMBASS "girlfriend" comes around the corner with a broomstick (in the dark) screaming at us.

Anyone want to guess what a broom stick held like a gun looks like in the moonlight (power was killed to protect some of the evidence on the guy's computer)and the offcers have 1 second to make a decision. One of the officers hit her in the face with an ASP baton.

OH yeah...she did get a "'TUNNY" and sue for that.

I think the point that's being made is you label any confrontation as cops versus scum. That isn't always the case but the assumption is always that the person is scum and therefore should be treated as less than human. The kids in that video, and that is the discussion at hand and not some LA gangbanger, didn't appear to be scum. The were teenagers on skateboards.

Quick, question there Day...um why were the cops called...becuase the LAW (that is the legal set of rules we must follow in a complex society) said "NO SKATEBOARDING". WHY? because skateboarders are notoriusly iresponsible. They HIT people and skate away laughing.

So lets take the "FEEL GOOD" scenario from people who have NEVER set infront of a review board. Officer pulls up, kids laugh at him. HE gets frustrated the kids are (thank you pathetic mommy and daddy) just brushing him off.

SO he leaves. Junior is skating along and runs over granny. Granny busts a hip....guess who gets SUED? Junior..nah he is LONG gone. The Skateboard manufacturer? NAH...the officer, did NOT do his job. He will be cross examined over every little thing he did and did not do.

This is a perfect example. He had what...2 minutes to make his decision? He may have just come from 10 other skateboard calls. He may have gotten his ass chewed for NOT busting them....and you guys have the REST of YOUR FREAKING lives to second guess him...

Actually, we don't know that the officer was called. His vehicle looks like one that patrols parks. He likely came upon them, confronted them, got some lip and freaked out. I never said he shouldn't have confronted them, that he shouldn't have enforced the law, or that upon instigating the confrontation being extremely cautious. He should do all of that. My critique comes solely from the standpoint that he's apparently taking anger out from other sources on 3 punk kids. He seems to come across with an, "I'll show you" attitude.

PS, in general, it seems to me that people who verbally demand respect are the ones least deserving of it. I'm in a civic club with a fellow that I talk to from time to time. I know him, call him friend, but don't know him extremely well. In other words, I don't know life history, but stop and speak when we see each other. He's the Sheriff Dept Capt and a retired Delta Force guy. He's the most quiet, humble person you'd ever meet. I respect him immensely and it totally comes from the way he carries himself and how he treats people. Some people just have "it," whatever "it" is. The dude in the video doesn't have "it" but you'll respect him or he'll bash you into the concrete.

Dayhiker...you may not know this but officers routinely recieve calls on something called a "RADIO". And these "RADIO's" can be the size of a book (in the case of a "vehicle mounted RADIO") or the size of a NAlgene bottle or smaller. In this case there is a microphone (its a thing hooked up to the "RADIO") on his collar. Using the "RADIO" you can be dispatched to the call....that means if you are driving around the 911 Dispatcher can call you on the "RADIO" and send you to the scene.

Now what may have happened...After a couple of complaints from people putting up with these punks...the officer gets a call...and you get the rest of your life to second guess him.

It is something different when you kiss your wife and kids goodbye in the morning knowing that some S-Bag with a problem with authority may shoot you for NO real reason. And there is a REAL good chance he will be out in a few years becuase the people with a chance to SECOND guess you said you...YOU screwed up.
