wool
How many of you choose wool over other products ? I live in Wyoming where warm ,tough and quiet is the requirements. The recent winter has been windier than normal and I have really been enjoying the old standby . Pendleton, Woorich,Filson and a US Army wool shirt .

Yup, wool for me in deer season. Heavy wool trousers and mackinaw jacket.

Wool base layer is great, but hellishly expensive. I wear my Icebreaker rusty red ¼ zip with a blazer (sometimes I put my thumbs through the thumb slots to make peole giggle - but then, I put plastic gloves on my head when I'm in the hospital).

quiet
When moving through thick woods or willows there is a need to be as quiet as possible. Limbs on a wool coat or hat make little noise. The sound of a stick on nylon jacket spooks animals .

I wore this on my last hike. Warm, but not very quiet.

Careful.
You're making us Scots horny (only we would clone a sheep - 'Look, it looks just like the other one.')

I need a lover, mother
No, not my brother, mother
I need a sheep to keep me warm through the night...

i prefer wool. The thick wool keeps you warm and dry in the winter, the thin (smartwool microweight stuff) keeps you cooler and dryer in the summer and I find that by far the wool keeps you less stinky year round than does the synthetic crap.

I get really sweaty feet with wool socks, less so with synthetics. Smell is the trade-off.

I've got a really nice wool neck gaiter (alpaca i believe), hat and mittens (sheep i think). Luv 'em! Wouldn't go out in the winter without 'em.

Grem, I was given a beautiful Icebreaker zip neck shirt. It was my favorite shirt until my mother in law came over to do laundry, found a load washed and tossed it all in the dryer, on high. I need to find a considerably shorter person to pass it on to (SIGH). The shoeler pants fared better, thankfully.

I told me wife if I loose a few sizes I'm replacing all my layers with Icebreaker and Patagonia gear. She said "Fine.". Moooohahahaha!
