1. After working at least 55 hours a week since January 2, I was told that I needed to work more hours! Yikes! KMA! I don't know when I'm supposed to find more hours in the week. I come in early and take a half hour lunch as it is. I need to be brave and just quit and find another job.

2. A TT trip has just been posted 20 miles from my freakin house and I can't do it, because I have to work. May be able to meet up with them on Sat night though.

Enjoyment of life isn't measured by the dollar.

I am living proof of that.

:(

Well stomper, if you hate your job, its time to look for something else! Life is too short to do something you dislike everyday for a living. SC's Rules of Living #3.

I'm a CPA in a public accounting firm. I haven't even started doing taxes yet, I have to get my audits done first. Then comes the push to get the returns done before the deadline.

Have you gotten your resume together yet? You need to get out of public accouting. Let your clints know you are looking for a change. You will probably get an offer from one of them, or someone they know. Start networking!

You need to demand an afternoon off and come to work for morning in your nice interview outfit. :)

My wife is in the same boat you are. She's an accounts manager for a publisher and she's got all the normal stuff to do, taxes to do, the company keeps buying newspapers all over the country so she's got to get them set up and she has a CEO who is a meathead and has no idea what she does. He called her up yestarday and told her she needed to have a new paper in Colorado set up with systems and everyone paid by Friday. Ha! She comes home late, eats and then is on her lap top until 10-11.

Yep - i worked in public firms for waaaay too long - was a partner for a while in one.

Get out! Get out now!

as for the demand for more hours - just don't do it! They won't fire you until April 16th.

Just watch out - sometimes going to industry can be even worse. I know a guy at a big company in Denver who worked EVERY weekend from June to October last year... he now has a new job.

I was working crazy hours at my last job in a PR firm as an account supervisor. I would then get told, after working 60 hours, how I needed to bring in more billable and got no respect from the boss who was busy taking week vacations every other week. It was miserable and all I could do when I got home was to piss and moan to my wife about how much I was working and then collapse. It was completely the worst job I have ever had in the white collar world.

I left that over a year ago for a much more relaxed position. It pays more, with almost no serious responsibility whatsoever. While not as challenging, the schedule of 40 hours a week cannot be beat. I'll probably move on to something a little more challenging in the next couple of year, but with school and a kid on the way, this is the right place for me to be right now.

I would get the hell out before you crack, buddy.

Between mid April and mid October, I generally expect to have 45 to 50 hours per week at work. But it strictly Monday through Friday.

In the winter, I pretty much can get by with about 25 hours a week. I haven't hit a lick at a snake in about a month.

Stomper, that is why I skipped public and went straight to industry. I may make a little less, but I figure I can get a second job, and make more while still working less if the money ever becomes an issue.

Oh yea, LOL at XL. Poor guy.

I own my own business. Forty hours would seem like I was working part time. Good thing I absolutely love what I do.
