HOI there is a group from the other side going to Sipsey the last weekend in March. I have never backpacked with anyone from the other side, but am thinking about joining them. If you are interested come along.

Here is the link

Here is the basic trip plan
option 1 (Primary option)
Fri - Begin at Thompson Bridge parking lot. Head south along FT206 to Auburn Falls, ship rock and eye of the needle to the intersection of FT205 (approx 2.8mi). Proceed along FT209 another 1.6mi to Bee Branch Canyon. Set camp in the area of FT206 & Bee Branch Canyon. Total miles ~3.4.

Sat - Proceed up Bee Branch Canyon to Big Tree and Bee Branch Falls for 1.2mi. (It would not hurt to plan this as a dayhike to ease the blowdowns) Return south through Bee Branch Canyon back to FT206. Follow east along FT209 parallelling Sipsey River toward Feather Hawk Falls for approx 2.8mi. At FHF, head west along FT202 by Johnson's cemetary to FT201 (approx 2.6). Then north along FT201 to the Sipsey River/Parker Creek junction approx 2.3mi. Total miles ~10.1

Sun - Hike SE to the FT205.Sipsey River xing. Cross river and head north back along FT206 back to Thompson Bridge parking lot. Total miles ~ 2.8

Option 2 (will require a car at the beginning and end points)
Fri - same as Option 1 Friday plan. Begin at Thompson Bridge parking lot.

Sat - Proceed to the Bee Branch Falls/Big Tree up the Bee Branch Canyon and return back to FT209 (approx 2.4). Follow FT209 SE along the Sipsey River to the intersection of FT209/Borden Creek (approx 4.8). Camp in the vicinity of Borden Creek & FT209. Total miles ~ 7.2.

Sun - proceed North along FT200/Borden Creek for approx 5.2 mi to the NW parking lot. Total ~ 5.2.

Any opinions about either. The Saturday miles on Option 2 will be fewer and will probably help more since the blowdown in the Bee Branch Canyon. I had previously forgotten about those. Suggestions, comments?

“My favorite trails are by rivers and streams”

Mine too. My favorite is the Fiery Gizzard Trail in the South Cumberland State Park here in TN. Very pretty!

Mocs - I don't have any connection with those folks - as near as I can tell you are the only one on that thread that also posts to TT - if I am going to drive 11 hours to get there I need more than that

btw if you have any questions about the Sipsey ask here - there are some very knowledgeable people here wrt the Sipsey

There's going to be some pretty awesome bands there this year. I've never been...yet. Pretty sad since I live right here.

I'm ready. Won't happen today though. It's raining.

My wife will be out of town in a couple of weeks and I need to plan a hike. Maybe I'll check the trips page, but you guys are always far away.

Here are the options:

3/14 - 3/16/08: NORTH FORK MT. TRAIL, (WV) Near Seneca Rocks. Smoke Hole
3/14 - 3/18/08: LBL Thru Hike, (KY) Land Between the Lakes
3/15 - 3/23/08: Pot o' gold AT trip, (TN) GSMNP

The Kentucky one may be doable. I'm avoiding Big Bend cause it's Spring Break.

Maybe the Ouachita Trail...
