Colorado in March

“My wife and I are thinking about a week-long trip to Colorado this March. I have been granted permission () to have 3 days to backpack.

Any suggestions? I assume that many areas are out of the question due to the time of year (snow), but have no idea.

“The high country will still have snow, but you can rent snowshoes cheap from REI or some local shops in the mountains. What area will you be in?”

“Thanks for the offer. I'm getting the idea that CO in March is not such a good idea for one that does not want to use snowshoes.

Now I'm thinking VA somewhere.

Yeah, I hear that March is one of CO's snowiest months. ;) I'm not sure it can get much snowier in the mountains. }:)

It also gets a buttload of Texans on spring break - skiing, not backpacking.”
