To hike all 50 states

“My bride(BuffaloBabe) and I have been talking a lot about vacations and we have come up with a 17 year plan to hike in all 50 states. It's ambitious but still within reason. Totally doable at a rate of 2 or 3 per year.

Maybe we'll be lucky enough to cross trails with some TTers along the way.”

“We are good JB. Job hunt is on hold till we see what happens in Milwaukee today. If things go well, I will be looking for part time work in WI. Hopefully we will still make it to Trail Days. Thanks for asking...how are things on your side of the mountain??”

Only 5, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Pennsylvania.”

They all have something different to offer.

And some overlooked states have really beautiful places.

“NH, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Maryland, WVa, Va, Kentucky, NC, SC, Tenn, Ga.on the right coast. (Most in NC, Tenn, and Va)

NM, Az, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Wash, Oregon, California to the left (I'm not sure climbing some of the Cascade peaks qualifies as hiking. I consider it more climbing. Either way it involves walking with a somewhat heavy pack.)

I've been to other states but I consider hiking to be on/off trail at least 1 mile

There are some very impressive lists among you guys.
Man, I checked out some books from the library and kind of got overwhelmed at how big this dang Country really is. At one point I got really discouraged, but I just have to break it down to manageable chunks.

I'm also going to be watching the trips page a lot closer. I figure ya'll know what areas are best near you. For example, I'd consider Chili a reliable source for Tenn trail info.

The thing that's so overwhelming about the idea is every state has great places and less than great places and I don't want to go to KY and hike some lame a$$ trail.

Mine are the AT states: GA, NC, TN, VA, WV, MD, PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA, VT, NH, and ME. Plus CA, AZ, SC, KY, TX, CO, HI, with some backpacking in Italy and extended dayhikes on Corsica.”

I tolt Bear he should'a told me about children bein in the area!!! I recall being slightly overthetop that night, uh, from what I can recall....

Now that I thank of it, them creek crossings were a wee bit meddlesome. When I got to camp I felt like saying, "Bond, James Bond." in my tux, hehehe.”

It isn't every day you see someone walk up to camp in a tux 6 miles from a TH and then proceed to take center stage.

Once in a lifetime, I tell ya. That little microscope is still around somewhere. The memories will last a lifetime.

Here's a graphical representation of all the states I've backpacked and hiked in (as well as Geocached in many). My goal is to have all 50 by the time I'm 30 so I have a little over 3 years to do it. My wife and I are doing a New England road trip this June to pick up 5 more, RI, VT, NH, Mass, and Maine. That will bring me up to 39. I'll get 4-6 more in 09 and the rest in 10.”
