The Dude was pissed at HW Bush over something (actually hilarious) and if I remember right he got in, then got out (becuase the CIA was going to screw up his daughter's wedding) then Got in... Nah he was a handgrenade with a bad haircut. I think it is pretty much apparent to anyone with a couple of brain cells that REGARDLESS who we put in there, they will eventually do something to piss everyone off. They may piss off all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time...(and sadly) they may actually manage to piss all the people off all the time. So therefore a federal government that enforces the original Constitution (i.e. leave domestic and concentrate on protecting our citizens) is the best. Contrary to what the nice feel good touchfeely types want. WE DO HAVE to interact with the rest of the world. This means THEY have to come here and OUR people have to go there. That is where the whole isolation thing gets sticky.” 4:58:09 AM 2/22/08 “that dude had MAJOR entertainment value... good old jugears and his VP... what was his name? he was as totally unbelievable as everyone else but at least me kept me entertained.” 5:01:14 AM 2/22/08 “I don't want people voting who have no clue what's going on. - Sarge + 1. Yogisan, you're full of fail....again.” 5:26:50 AM 2/22/08 “Yogi..that was Vice Admiral James Stockdale, he was a friend...if anyone here thinks McCain was a hero for his Hanoi Hilton escapades...Jim Stockdale eclipses him like the sun to a candle flame.” 5:34:21 AM 2/22/08 “Admiral Stockdale, if I remember correctly... But, hey, if a CEO is what is needed in the WH, draft Bloomberg. He's the best at it...” 5:36:02 AM 2/22/08 “I suggest people read the wiki if you don't know much about Stockdale. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Stockdale This is awesome- Stockdale Paradox: “You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end — which you can never afford to lose — with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.” Also, this from Dennis Miller - "Now I know (Stockdale's name has) become a buzzword in this culture for doddering old man, but let's look at the record, folks. The guy was the first guy in and the last guy out of Vietnam, a war that many Americans, including our present President, did not want to dirty their hands with. The reason he had to turn his hearing aid on at that debate is because those #&%!$ing animals knocked his eardrums out when he wouldn't spill his guts. He teaches philosophy at Stanford University, he's a brilliant, sensitive, courageous man. And yet he committed the one unpardonable sin in our culture: he was bad on television."” 5:46:02 AM 2/22/08 “He broke his leg ejecting from his aircraft over Vietnam...the North Vietnamese (following the Geneva Convention no doubt) broke it so many times that when he got off the aircraft in Clark AFB it was sticking out at a right angle.” 5:53:05 AM 2/22/08 “More I'm on TT, the more I feel this way. “I don't want people voting who have no clue what's going on. - Sarge” 5:54:28 AM 2/22/08 “.the North Vietnamese (following the Geneva Convention no doubt) broke it so many times - XL Propaganda. Jane Fonda actually went there and witnessed their gentle nature. Read her speech for the truth.” 6:00:18 AM 2/22/08 “Yep...sale you are correct...in fact if I do not know who the candidates are...I don't vote in that election. Years ago in Texas the Governor (Bill Clements) was elected in the off year election (1978).The First Republican elected to the Governor mansion since reconstruction. Well the next election (that I speak of with deep reverence) was 1980 and Reagan won overwhelmingly against "JIMUH..THE LOSER" sadly thought a bunch of moderate Republicans got elected. The reason..... Turns out the old "pull switch" machines had the Vote one knob for a whole party line. The name at the top of the line was determined by who was Governor. Most of the Dolts pulled the top switch. WHOO HOO!” 6:01:47 AM 2/22/08 “Worse than not knowing the candidates, is thinking you do know Them enough to vote. Many times, only two handles are needed Left and right and underneath they're both connected to the same result.” 7:50:13 AM 2/22/08 “But, hey, if a CEO is what is needed in the WH, draft Bloomberg. He's the best at it...” Merrel-Lynch says RE will drop 25% from present levels. Isn't that exactly a fall in net wealth equal to the federal debt? Correction; The debt at 9.3 trillion is still 2 trillion higher than the estimated 7 trillion fall in overall RE worth. Maybe we do need Bloomberg.” 8:16:10 AM 2/22/08 “James Stockdale! That's it. I remember reading about him when he was selected to run as VP. An amazing career. I watched that debate and I remember being ashamed of the way the media portrayed him. ...oh, and I would want everyone who was subject to the whims of the democracy to vote. if you think that only the well informed, smart, or educated should be voting then you have missed the whole concept behind a representational democracy. last edited: 2/22/08 3:29:44 PM” 3:28:43 PM 2/22/08 “oh, and I would want everyone who was subject to the whims of the democracy to vote. if you think that only the well informed, smart, or educated should be voting then you have missed the whole concept behind a representational democracy. Couldnt agree more.” 3:33:34 PM 2/22/08 “...oh, and I would want everyone who was subject to the whims of the democracy to vote. if you think that only the well informed, smart, or educated should be voting then you have missed the whole concept behind a representational democracy. ... and for the spin! LOL! That's pathetic. Nobody said dumb or uneducated or ugly or short or fat or smelly or poor or lonely shouldn't vote. We're saying people who don't make an effort to find out ... wait for it ... WHO ... they are voting for and what they stand for should vote. OH, and before you say it, we're not saying they don't have a right to vote, but did you want me to leave that for you to capitalize on? Sorry Yogi. Nowhere in "representational democracy" is it implied it's a good idea to reach 100% participation. That's just representing stupid. last edited: 2/22/08 5:26:56 PM” 5:22:52 PM 2/22/08 “This is a good thread where many admit guilt for driving our nation into the ground. Thank you for your poor judgement.” 7:53:20 AM 11/03/08 “Most Productive Thread Ever!” 8:05:24 AM 11/03/08 “Thanks for reminding me, after 4 years have passed, to check the spelling of 'Pat Paulsen' for toommmmorrrrow. last edited: 11/03/08 8:24:58 AM” 8:24:40 AM 11/03/08 “Everything was fine until you dingbats elected a democratic congress.” 8:28:36 AM 11/03/08 “Wow, I thought this is a 'Chamber of Commerce Congress'.” 8:32:00 AM 11/03/08 “Wayhigh thinks two years = 8.” 8:33:46 AM 11/03/08 “nope I think 6 years was good, especially given that we suffered a tremendous attack on our homeland by our enemy and haven't had another since then, then the democrats came in and screwed it up.” 8:36:40 AM 11/03/08 “Blowin' a fuse is easy to dooooooooo...” 8:38:27 AM 11/03/08 “the first 2 years of obama's reign will be rough but hopefully the other crooks will win in the mid term and provide some balance” 8:39:26 AM 11/03/08 “the first 2 years of obama won't hurt much. It will be his long lasting effect that will hurt the very people who voted for him. I will always be able to find a job when I want one so I'll be ok.” 8:54:25 AM 11/03/08 “Soo pathetically funny. Here we are in the worst depression in 100 years and WayHigh is predicting it will get WORSE because of Obama. He just inheriting the mess created by the Bush Administration. You guys are going to demonize him no matter what. In a way, he's totally screwed because the damage done is so great, there's no way he's going to be able to reverse much in one term. But by all means, continue apologizing for your presidential disaster.” 9:10:07 AM 11/03/08 “Here we are in the worst depression in 100 years..... Hiker19B4 Aw, isn't that cute? Trying to be all serious like he knows what he's talking about. What, is your computer plugged into a cardboard box? Is that your cell phone ringing? Please tell us how the worst depression in 100 years is hurting you.” 9:19:29 AM 11/03/08 “Bitter middle America as demonstrated by Nonconformist. But, to appease your peabrain questioning (as if you didn't know, but given the intellect you've demonstrated on here, who knows): 1. Investments are in the toilet. Home, retirement accounts, stocks, all sunk for now. 2. Cost of living is very high. Groceries are more. Service rates are more. Gas was a LOT more until about two weeks ago. 3. Because of the aformentioned reasons, I am not spreading around the "luxury" dollars as would have prior to the economy tanking. That, in turn, impacts other businesses due to reduced flow of capital. 4. But yeah, I'm pretty solidly middle class and have a pretty stable job, so I'm making ends meet. 5. It's really about the people on the cusp who are being pushed over the brink right now AND what this will all mean to future generations who are going to be paying of huge debts and suffering as a result. But I supposed you subscribe to the Cheney philosophy of life: get it while the gettin' is good because who knows when you'll have your fifth heart attack.” 9:32:13 AM 11/03/08 “Bitter? LMAO! Didn't you try to pin that on me once before, lol? Don't try to project your own feelings on me, Bitterman. With all the doom and gloom surrounding you it's amazing that you still find the time and money for internet trolling. Do you get paid to do it? Is it that lucrative? As for the people on the cusp, that remains to be seen. We can hope there won't be a depression like the last one and I'm optimistic about that unless govt tries to heavy handedly "fix" things. The debts are another story altogether. If I was to be bitter about anything, it'd be that.” 9:45:51 AM 11/03/08 “Dude, do you ever even think about what you say? You laugh at me when I say things were fine until 2 years ago when the dems took over congress. Then you list as the things that are wrong with the country the things that happened in the last year. Investments are in the toilet. This action could have been forestalled if the democratically controlled congress would have done something to protect the citizens instead of protecting fannie mae and freddie mac. Cost of living went up when gas went up. Again, in the last year. Now gas is back to where it was. Cost of living should come back down” 9:47:34 AM 11/03/08 “It is almost over! Less than 48 hours until the possible end of the USA. We had a good 232 years or so.” 9:48:34 AM 11/03/08 “But by all means, continue apologizing for your presidential disaster. If 'BIGBIZ' keeps it's power for the next 4 years, you'll be doing the same in4B4.” 9:54:04 AM 11/03/08 “yup, here comes the communisem....oops, sociolisem. Years ago, a commu...er sociolist wouldn't of made it this far.” 10:04:29 AM 11/03/08 “Maybe that horrible socialist system woud ensure you get an education and learn to spell?” 10:17:59 AM 11/03/08 “If people don't want to pay property taxes, who cares if the kids can't spell or if they don't know anything of the wider world. You don't need to know anything about history to work in a call center ---- Education just makes them 'uppity'. ” 11:11:37 AM 11/03/08 “who here said they didn't want to pay property tax?” 11:29:43 AM 11/03/08 “You don't have to say it, hyway, the lefties think it for you.” 11:48:09 AM 11/03/08 “Please tell us how the worst depression in 100 years is hurting you.” Nonconformist 9:19:29 AM 11/03/08 You live in Michigan don't you NonC. Do not notice this stuff. The General Motors Corporation reported a 45 percent decline in sales on Monday, and the Ford Motor Company said it sold 30.2 percent fewer cars and trucks. “If you adjust for population growth, this is probably the worst industry sales month in the post-World War II era,” Mark LaNeve, G.M.’s vice president for sales Or does that somehow not matter because you don't live in Detroit?” 12:06:35 PM 11/03/08 “But I tell you what NonC - why don't you try a post a 'funny' racist line like you did earlier. That's what's important right.” 12:07:39 PM 11/03/08 “who did y2 vote for?” 12:15:16 PM 11/03/08 “that's right, cause sales of american cars didn't start declining until we entered this "recession"” 12:15:30 PM 11/03/08 “The larger issue is the Dumbya decided to nix Clinton's executive order when he left office requiring the big 3 to produce a certain percentage of high-mileage and alternative fuel vehicles. This is one of the first things he did when taking office. He doomed the big 3, but I guess that's what they wanted. Narrow vision CEOs who wanted to take the money and run. Sounds like what a lot of big biz did under Shrub, and then left the public with the clean-up bill. Ya gotta love visionaries.” 12:20:02 PM 11/03/08 “how are those southern states non-union plants doing? Anyone know? I think that would be an interesting comparison” 12:21:05 PM 11/03/08 “You 2, Y2? You're going to trot out the racism card? Weak. Show me where I ever posted anything racist. Or are you and yours projecting or assuming someone else's thoughts again?” 12:22:36 PM 11/03/08 “Well also Bush's take-down of the credit system stops people finanacing cars, while his take-down of the economy has left much of the population wary about big purchases in case they lose their job. How's the tax base in Michigan looking - confident state jobs will be safe?” 12:22:54 PM 11/03/08 “typical, rosey wants the government to run private companies.” 12:23:11 PM 11/03/08 “NonC - you're neither subtle enough or smart enough to play those games.” 12:24:57 PM 11/03/08 “Who said anything about running companies? It's about protecting national security and natural resources, improving air quality and job market stability. Those are all public goods.” 12:26:33 PM 11/03/08 “How did George Bush take down the credit system? That was the result of Clinton supported bill pushed through by a republican congress which finally collapsed during a democratic congress that did nothing to prevent it.” 12:29:27 PM 11/03/08
