just picked up an ENO hammock!

“So... today's my birthday and I got a little bit of money from my in-laws, so off to REI i went... picked up an ENO hammock, some more P-cord and the book, "Last Child in the Woods" by Richard Louv (great book, i've heard)

Spam's been hangin in his hammock so darn comfortable for so long now, i've decided to try it out. heck, with REI's guarantee, if i dont like it, i can just bring it back!”

“Well that's a tough question...the ENO fly is sufficient but I think that I would go with the one that has four tie outs instead of the one that I have that has two.Then again I kinda like the coverage that I get from my Speer tarp...the one that I used last weekend.”

note I do something a bit different than the bulk of people do over on hammock forums - I just use a single ring on each end of the hammock and then tie the strap to the ring using a girth hitch - takes a little longer to adjust but its lighter - the strap I tie to the tree with a round turn and two half hitches with the second hitch slipped - again somewhat different than common use over on HF - nice thing about the way I do it is that there is no sewing of the straps.”

Wow - hammocking has come a long way. I was camping (and climbing) back in the '80's in net hammocks and those canvas army-surplus jungle hammocks. My first "modern" hammock was a Clark Junglehammock I got in '96 I believe. Nowadays, wowzers, those folks have taken things to a whole new level.

I still don't like them advocating using straps on trees that rope would damage. If rope would damage a tree, don't tie into it. My opinion only.”
