Fleece/softshell suggestionsView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 15 of 15 messages posted.
“My REI fleece jacket has finally developed a funk that won't come out. I've had it several years and it's time to upgrade. I haven't bought one in several years so I'm not sure whats out there. New jacket will be used for everything from hiking, grocery runs, patio drinkin, walkin the dogs, goin to the gym, etc. Must be durable and somewhat street smart. Suggestions? PS I'm looking at the REI The One jacket. last edited: 2/22/08 6:27:49 AM” 6:22:29 AM 2/22/08 “How much you want to spend? Check out Mountain Gear's website. They have top of the line stuff and a lot at discounted prices. .http://www.mountaingear.com/index.asp” 6:59:29 AM 2/22/08 “Campmor, Sierra Trading Post all have good gear....as for the funk...take it to a dry cleaner they can do some amazing stuff.” 7:06:42 AM 2/22/08 “Under $200.00 XL- I've given it every treatment I can think of. It's at least 3 years old and has been used strenuously all 3 years. It's shot. I'm retiring it to the gym closet.” 7:30:11 AM 2/22/08 “I wanna soft shell. I can't remember if I liked the REI One, but I did like the TNF Apex Bionic in the store.” 7:40:04 AM 2/22/08 Wounded Knee “Great website suggestion I looked at tne MH Moto Jacket and it seems like the right jacket at the right price.” 7:41:53 AM 2/22/08 “I have a MH Nailhead fleece jacket that I love. A tad heavy at 1 pound, however I have been wearing it around town more than in the woods.” 7:45:42 AM 2/22/08 “I would get a Patagonia R series fleece. Lifetime guarantee and really warm for the weight. I think they have an outlet (not the one in Reno) that you can order from over the phone. Just ask what they have in stock. I would skip the softshell.” 8:12:06 AM 2/22/08 “Why skip the softshell?” 8:44:05 AM 2/22/08 “A. I think softshells are heavier and don't insulate as well. B. Fleece allows more wind/air transference (if you don't get a windproof version), which I like. If I need windblock, I can add it with a nylon throwover. C. I think softshells excel in really cold, dry conditions (maybe they were developed for ice climbers?). Basically, I just think fleece is a more versatile layer. C.” 10:47:51 AM 2/22/08 “thanks. I do sweat a lot. Fleece is prolly best for what I want to do.” 10:53:06 AM 2/22/08 “Brian, Mountain Hardware Windstopper Tech This puppy will become almost like your favorite t-shirt in 2 days. I have the black and love it. that is till we got Sipsey and black and her don't mix. I still love it after about 4 lint strips. It has pit zips, is windproof, very water resistant, soft, stretchy, well designed, pockets are high so they avoid the hipbelt. you can wear it in warm weather and not fry, and below freezing and not be uncomfortable” 11:00:23 AM 2/22/08 “Opie when you comin back to Nashville for a visit?” 11:08:31 AM 2/22/08 “Close on our 1st house march 3rd. We'll be free after that.” 1:36:56 PM 2/22/08 “http://beyondclothing.com Check out their clothing. I like the customizable aspects of their clothing lines.” 8:53:58 AM 2/25/08
