Yeah, aside from the evil dictator being taken out, Lybia folding, and AlQaeda not being able to accomplish their goals, that's the best darn news of the whole war.

Or the fact that the rape rooms, torture chambers (real stuff not the college prank stuff the libbies got their panties in a wad over), the mass executions the use of SARIN, and MUSTARD gas (oh my it was a WMD) on innocent civilians. Discounting the destruction of the Marsh area (now being reintroduced to save the environment....)

All I thought was...this poster HAS to have their head in their A@$$ then I saw Conn...okay no explanation necessary.

I'm sure he meant in tongue in cheek (hopefully anyways), but it just belittles the effort the soldiers go through over there for our safety over here. I'm sick of that crap.

I know Sarge. I'm saying that (and Im going out on a limb here) Danma17a isn't discounting all the good that's been done there. It's a feel good story.Lets bask in the positive news when we get it however small and not make the guy sound like a dick for sharing a nice story.

How about we not make the soldiers sounds like dicks for all they do, and act like this dog story is better news than what they bring to us.

As much as you dislike my response to his post, his post brings that feeling of dislike to me when I read THAT. The commentary at the end of his post that this is the best news of the whole war is completely out of line and unnecessary. It was HE that took the positive news of the dog and tried to put a political spin on it, not me.

I don't see a political spin.
I think you read way too much into that line unless I have missed other posts by Dman that are on the political rant train.

Best News of the whole war.

You don't see a political spin?

Wow.

Currahee

You should also assume no ill intent when I stick up for the work of the soldiers. The intent is for good, not 'ill'.

Saying that the story of a dog is better news than RISKING THEIR LIVES to accomplish many successful goals in this war pretty much slaps each of the soldiers in the face. I have a feeling he wouldn't have said that to one of the soldiers lying in the hospital with one leg hanging off and his face burnt begging the nurses to go back out there with his buddies on the front line. What is the "intent" in that? I'll also give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't mean to bash the soldiers, but I will not stand by and pretend for ONE SECOND that that dog story is better than what the soldiers have done, and frankly, neither should you.

I love my country, support the military, and see this story as one of encouragement and hope--that in difficult situations our soldiers are humane, recognize loyalty and devotion in one of God's creatures, and found purpose in rewarding that. I, for one, am glad that that dog came along to befriend our boys.

Im amazed how wrong this was taken, i am proud of the soldiers, i dont think a dog is worth them risking their lives. I said that out of all of this death and suffering, a life so small was saved.

Nubs is actually living in my town for a few days. He is staying with the parents of one of the guys in that marine's unit. They will put him on a plane for San Diego in the next few days. He's kind of a local sensation here at the moment.

Hate to tell you but what you ARE not seeing is that the American Military has been known for centuries for its kindness. Often this was seen as a weakness. Amazingly enough there are hundreds of stories of soldiers doing similar things...sadly it is not PC enough for the Lamestream to report.

I served proudly Sarge. Those are my brothers & sisters serving & sacrificing over there and I'm not pissed about the article or the post. Nor do I think that it should be such a thorn in your side.

Danman- was this a politically motivated thread?

Once again, nobody is trying to take anything away from the article or the story. The problem is saying that it's the best news from Iraq. If you guys feel like you need to turn this into a burnt offering, you go right ahead and knock yourself out. That's on you. Regarding animal activists - I'm very much an animal lover, so much so I've considered working for PETA before (wised up though), so don't try to turn this into some animal bashing thing.

Heck I rescue dogs who are abandoned, I have driven from the Alabama border to Norfolk VA to Florida to transport them.

Its a neat story but there are plenty of even neater stories about what our heroes are doing.

No its not politically motivated, im 16, i dont even know what that means. I thought it was a good story coming from loads of bad ones. I agree with you, i meant nothing against our troops. I am proud of everything they do and continue to do over there. Im not out to set off some teary eyed political debate on the internet. It is a good story, not an anti war statement.

Interesting Currahee, so I can say anything and then just say "it's not political", and I'm in the clear, right? riiiight.

There is no way on earth that that statement was NOT political, nor it that it was anti-"this"-war. You just can't spin it that way. It is what it is.

The kid is 16 (sorry for callin you a kid Dan). Do you really think he's tryin to start some #&%!$ with that original post or was it a poor phrasing by someone who was out riding bikes when the war kicked off and

Currahee - I don't care one way or the other if he was trying to start something. It's irrelevant. A 16 year old should be old enough to learn from mistakes, no? If he said something that needs corrected, there is nothing wrong with doing so. You seem to be making this about me and this kid for some reason (sorry for calling you a kid also danman17a). (you and others) - The fact is I commented on THIS STATEMENT (Best News of the whole war.) (edit - I am NOT suggesting HE needed corrected, I'm responding to your comment about his age as if that's an excuse)

It is YOU, Currahee, who is making this about intentions. I even said I'm sure he meant it tongue-in-cheek. I even said I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't mean it against the troops. It is YOU, Currahee, who is making it about personal intentions.

I am making it about that statement. The statement is inappropriate, I don't care who said it. I don't care if it was said in relation to a story about puppy dogs or about babies or about bunny rabbits.

Okay, maybe you're trolling me right now. I generally don't take you for that kind of guy, so I have my doubts, but if you were, kudos, you got me. Otherwise, you're arguing against a strawman argument which you have created.

This image provided by Marine Major Brian Dennis, of St. Pete Beach, Fl., shows Dennis holding his adopted dog, Nubs, near the Iraq-Jordan border Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. It began with a simple act of kindness to save an abused and injured dog from becoming one more victim in the war in Iraq. But what followed for Marine Maj. Brian Dennis and the mutt was a tale of friendship and loyalty that spanned miles, borders, and overcame long odds _ a tale that takes a turn Friday Feb. 22, 2008 with the anticipated arrival here of the Marine's best friend. There have been a few stories of GI's bringing home dogs. Very touching.

I have rescued my share of dogs but the fact this one followed this guy to base and found him makes it a little more special.

...In late December, Dennis found Nubs near death in freezing temperatures. The dog had been stabbed with a screwdriver.

Dennis rubbed antibiotic creme on the wound and slept with Nubs to keep him warm.

"I really expected when I woke up for watch he would be dead," Dennis wrote. "Somehow he made it through the night."

Dennis thought he had seen the last of the dog days later when his squad headed back to its command post some 65 miles away. He couldn't take the dog with him and watched as it tried to follow the Humvees away from the border.

Two days later, while Dennis and a comrade were working on a Humvee, he looked up and saw the dog staring at him.

One of our lieutenants in Korea rescued a DMZ dog and named it Blue. He had him sent home to his parents when his tour was up. Cool guy & a cool dog.
