Oh, now it's a banana dilemma!

But, really there's a purpose for bananas in all their stages. I wouldn't use anything but brown for bread, while yellow is best for cereal and yellow with freckles is best for eating. And green is best for Birch.

Say, did you all know if you break your bunch up they ripen slower?

Send me your spotty bananas; that's when they get smooshy and sweet! Very nice on whole wheat toast with PB.

I love bananas but I eat them very rarely.

When I do, I prefer them either yellow or yellow with freckles.

There was a guy on public radio the other day who'd written a book on bananas.

Item 1:   Keep them in the refrigerator like any other fruit.   The banana distibutors say to keep them out so they'll rot faster and you'll have to buy more.

Item 2:   The "Chiquita" marketing was originally developed by the United Fruit Company (the Dulles brothers and all that crap in Central America).

As you were ---

they won't ripen in the fridge and most are on the green side when you buy them. put them in the fridge one they get where you want them... but in my house with my appetite for the things and that of my three kids they just don't last that long even on the counter.

Can This Fruit Be Saved?
By Dan Koeppel Posted 06.22.2005 at 1:00 am

The banana as we know it is on a crash course toward extinction. For scientists, the battle to resuscitate the world’s favorite fruit has begun ---- a race against time that just may be too late to win.

Yellow to yellow with freckles. I like my fruit ripe, but not spoiled.

THe bananas we grew in Florida were a different variety...the flesh was much softer but extremely aromatic when properly ripe. THey also made excellent ersatz platanos when fried while still green.
