See, there's Weirdos like Marko and Chili on the Interwebs, so I like to keep a looooow profile,   LOL

It's fun to show up somewhere, hang out for a couple of hours (to see how crazy these people actually are) then reveal your identity......

i.e.   "SURPRISE, Mo-Fo!!"

beautiful babysky
hi everyone. Thanks every one for the kind words. We appreciate all of the support we got on TT.

We just got home from the hospital. As many of you all know, we were planning on having a homebirth. Well, lyra went into labor 530am on Friday. She labored naturally and intensely at home for 27 hours with our midwives and me by her side the entire time. I have never seen anything like. She is so strong and amazing and I love her more than ever.

Things weren't progressing Saturday morning and the baby was getting distressed and we had to transfer to the hospital. It was a difficult decision, but we knew it was necessary.

At the hospital, everything stabelized. The hospital treated us wonderfully and allowed us to have Liam in as close to the setting we had planned for as possible considering the situation. Even after getting to the hospital, she still labored naturally for another 4 hours.

Liam was born just before 4pm Saturday. He is a very strong healthy baby. He is very tall, with long legs and arms and big feet and hands. He isvery cute. He has a head full of dark brown hair and blue eyes. He looks like both of us. He is a amazing.

He loves to look around and study his surroundings and he loves to be held, cuddled and talked to. He is very interactive. We are in absolute love with him.

Seeing him be born was the most incredible rush I have ever experienced. Friday and Saturday were difficult days for us, but at 4 a'clock Saturday afternoon, none of that mattered any more.

Lyra is doing great and so is Liam (babysky, as he has been christened here on TT).

He looks like he will be a backpacker and a speedy one for that matter. I am a proud pappa!!! I so proud of my wife and so incredibly amazed at her. My goodness, I cannot believe at what she went through and how she went throught it. Neither could the nurses and doctors.

She still had her sense of humor while in the most intense parts of labor and she still had a smile on her face, even though it was clear she was going through the most difficult thing of her life. I am so proud of her.

I'll post a photo soon.

He is very adorable.

Awwww, that is the sweetest trip report ever! Those were the hardest couple days of my life, but ENS made me feel safe and supported the whole time...we were both in it together 100%. And now we have a little lyra/ENS combo!! He's the best baby in the universe.

Like ENS said, we wanted to have the baby at home. Our midwife arrived around 8am on Friday morning, and I labored at home until the next morning around the same time. Then the baby's heart rate got low, and we transferred to the hospital...I labored there some more, until they said we'd have to do something, b/c the baby still wasn't coming. I'd been stuck at 8 cm for several hours, with no progress. So I got an epidural and slept for an hour, to see if relaxing would help the rest of the dilation. It never happened, though, and eventually it turned into 10 hours since I'd made any progress. So the only thing left to do was have a Cesarean birth. I never thought I'd have one of those, that's for sure! I wasn't too scared though, because I had Rob there with me, and the operation really wasn't as traumatic as I'd always thought one of those would be.

The reason he wouldn't come out, in addition to being pretty big, was that he was in a very awkward position (face up), and the best part of his head wasn't presenting.

I wish the baby had been born in his own home surrounded by just us and the midwives, but we have little Liam now and he's all safe and sound and just beautiful!

Thank you guys so much for all the posts and congratulations! We couldn't be any happier. :-)

Thanks! Well I shouldn't wish the baby had been born any other way, I guess. A home birth would have been great, but as one of our midwives said, you can't choose your birth fairy! haha. :-) Everything turned out wonderfully, I'm the luckiest mommy ever.

Great report from both of you! I used to be a birth assistant for a group of midwives that did home deliveries. Got to deliver a few myself when they didn't make it in time. Sounds like you both did an awesome job--kudos to you for not giving up, but then acting wisely when the time came--So...pics? Or do we need to come up there on a roadtrip and take them ourselves to post? JK--take your time little momma!

Sorry you had to go through a C-section too, Lyra. They suck. Some muscles never seem to fully recover from that. On the other hand, other muscles tighten up quite a bit more. ;)
I'm glad everyone's healthy and happy.

Absolutely super!

I had pictured a baby with a head full of dark wild hair.

By August that kid will be climbing the brickwork in your family room.

Big feet and hands, huh?
You just might have yourself a guitar-strangler.

I am so glad the hospital and staff there were so great. I used a midwife and/or doula with the birth of both of my sons. (They are the best!) With my oldest, when we showed up at the hospital with my midwife, they treated her like crap, which really pissed me off.

lol, Ruby! My hospital wouldn't let my midwife in unless my stupid Doctor was standing by her side (bastards).

Lyra, it sounds like you have an awesome attitude about all the changes you had to make to your plans. The bottom line is you have a beautiful baby now. Well, at least beautiful to you....the rest of us may never know. ;)
Rest well and take it easy w/ that belly cut.
