Flattop Mtn Revisited

“Went up to Flattop Mtn in Rocky Mtn NP yesterday with TMac. We'd planned on a couloir climb but on arrival revised that due to nasty weather rolling in off the Divide.

We opted to head up the hiking trail and try to find the summit of Flattop (12,324).

Theres about a 4 foot base of snow in the trees but the talus slopes above treeline are pretty windblown with only spotty snowcover.

Had a good time - made for a great day out.

“This was supposed to be my first technical winter climb, but like Roam said, the weather had other plans for us. Same mountain, more distance, but a lot safer for us both.

I didn't take nearly as many pix as Roam and I'm too lazy to label them right now (or ever, for that matter, just check my other recent albums).
