AH! I ripped my down jacket at work today. There are 2 very small clean rips on the arm. I want to repair it before they get big but I'm not sure how. In addition to wearing my coat in the woods I also wear it to work and walking on cold days so I want to fix it so it looks decent too. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it??

Duct Tape

It even comes in different colors now.

Avoid duct tape. You can get Gore-Tex repair tape both in black and clear, also nylon repair tape in assorted colours. Check through REI or Campmor.

Good luck,

Duct tape is nasty and will slide after a while.

Per Gremlin's suggestion, get some nylon patch tape at REI. I think it is made by a co. called Kenyon? It comes in blue, black, red and green. Find the color that most closely matches your coat and cut the patch a little wider than the rip.

If you want it to look good then you're going to have to sew it or get it sewn. If you don't mind it looking rough then get some of the repair tape and add some seam grip. I used that on a down bag.

call the manufacturer and they will repair it and replace any lost down for a small fee. I did that with a 25 year old NF...$20

In the meantime..... masking tape will keep the down from escaping without leaving any GOO on your jacket,   < wink >

depending on the size and location of the rip, you may be able to hand sew it with a quick whip stitch. Just make sure to double over both pieces of fabric on either side of the tear or it'll fray. Should be easy enough.

you could use seam sealer and get pretty good results. A few little stiches as have been suggested will make it a bit more secure.

I'm disappointed. No comments about Barbie ripping her jacket?

I wonder if it was pink. It probably has glitter on it and little rhinestones to.

Yes, it IS the infamous down jacket that Randall generously brought and packed in for me! That's why I'm so worried about it. And the fact that I love the coat!!!

Ok, here's my little Barbie secret, Stomper. I did bedazzle the jacket at soon as I got it home. And maybe a couple pink ribbons & bows.
