I almost fell over when I heard about it but it's true! There is an honest to god outfitter in Terre Haute! Seriously, they have it all, and if they don't have what you are looking for, they will get it!

The store is called The Element Outdoor Outfitters, and they have the real deal no bs gear for rock climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, and many other outdoor adventure sports. They actually had crampons and ice axes! The basement was nothing but tents, packs, and sleeping bags. The rep told me if there was a tent I wanted to see that wasn't set up that I should just help myself and set it up! Same way with the bags. Want to try one out? Well, kick off your shoes and slide down in one. Thay carry aqua mira, plattypus, MSR, and many other major brand names. I was very impressed. The staff are eager to help too. The only bummer though minor is that they don't take checks, so bring cash or plastic. They are at 1026 Wabash Ave. and you can call them at 812-234-5668.

There was/is a great record shop off the beaten path in TH called headstones. They specialized in 33's and 45's, but had CD's as well (this was back in 1991).

Sold some kick ass herb as well.

pronounced tera hote. and It's in far west central Indiana on the IL/IN line. Fairly good sized town actually.
Sorry WK, I don't know about the record shop that sells herbs. This gear store is over by the Clabber Girl factory about a mile east of 41.

Hey guys, I was just in here on Monday, and exchanged a leaky platty, and spoke with Rhonda who hung up a TR from my recent Grand Canyon trip, and my pics too, on her wall of fame at the shop. Rhonda, if you're lurking - HOWDY! and thanks again. I'll be in next Monday to get some cliff bars and magic beans for my "30 hours of Knobstone" coming up in a couple weeks. Oh, and watch out for that Wounded Knee guy, and his herbal record shop. ;)

ya, but he's retired. He retired somewhere along the Tonto Platform, deep in a seldom visited section of the Grand Canyon a few weeks ago. Funny, how do you think he'll ever get home? Truth is, he doesn't want to and never will. He'll spend the rest of eternity haunting Elves' Chasm and helping lost hikers find the elusive Tonto trail.
