“Laurel really decided she likes sand dunes on our recent California desert trip (just turned 5) - but this weekend is the NCTA conference and we were fairly set on going to that - arghh!!”

“The last couple of days I have been gearing up to take my two kids (6/9) out this summer for the first time. I have done several trips by my self but have not had them out yet. Hopefully I will have a trip with them before Aug but this could be their first trip. Are rookies welcomed?”

“Absolutely, Eicher! This is a really great trip for a rookie and for kids.”

“Eicher, anyone is welcome for sure!! they are the perfect age and the setting is ultra kid friendly.”

“Don't forget your swimsuits and goggles, a small bucket, glowsticks, etc... Can't have too many glowsticks with lots of kids around. :)

This time around, Laurel's keeping some sort of footwear on. That razorgrass between her toes was some bad stuff.”

“The only thing that might be difficult for a rookie kid is the catholing. There are no bathroom facilities. So, if they can handle that this trip will be a piece of cake for them, and as close to a hiking vacation as it gets for you Eicher. Hope you and the kids can make it!
If you want to do something w/ them sooner the Mothers Day trip to Red River Gorge is great fun too. We'll be at a campground for that one, so it's a great way to get their feet wet.”

ha!...i had to read that 3 times before i got that catholing = cat-hole-ing...i kept reading it as cath-hole-ing...i thought is that some new backpacking thing i'm not aware of? LOL”

“Lol TH. Laurel had some problems with cat-holing in sand, too.”

“Nope, 200 feet off of it. We cowboy camped on it last year, to watch the meteors. We ended up making a mad dash back to the camp at 4am, throwing a tent up real fast because of lightening and thunder, only to have it not rain. =)”

“THe high winds and blowing sand weren't bad enough, Sass? ;)”

“Is there a limit on this trip? I'm from upstate NY so it would be a bit of a drive but it sounds like fun. My girls are 8 and 10, sounds like the perfect age. The cat-holing, well they may have to work on that. Our camping trip last year, they ended up peeing on themselves....lol. Mom should have taught them better so I didn't look like a dork when I took them to the woods and they came back wet.”

“strz51, no limit at all. We will just spread out as needed at camp. NY is a haul for sure, but its a fun trip. Hope to see you there.”

“I just saw video this weekend of roads washed out around Ludington and Manistee, thanks to all of the rain.”

“Yes, and the rivers in the area are over their banks. We've had a bit of rain lately. Can't complain too much though, nothing compared to what they are dealing w/ out west.”

“I wish we'd get rain here. It's not looking good for us.”

“There are plenty of homes for sale up here. No jobs though, and Koi don't like Michigan winters. Always plenty of water for all.”

“Actually, as long as you keep a little hole melted in the ice, koi don't care. They originate from Niigata, Japan, which gets 3 to 7 meters of snow each winter.”

“Sure, but the average lowest temp there is 30°F. That's our average high for January.”

“I just looked at the weather for Niigata for the next few days. I'd much rather be there.”

“I have tried twice now to join this trip and I get some message that the website can not be found. I got that weekend off work,so unless gas gets above $5, I will be there with Lily and Emma. Should be fun. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong with joining, let me know.”

“Bummer the trip sounds like fun adn I've been trying to get some of my friends to get out and go camping with other families...

However, since my baby Brother's getting married at the end of September, I am doing my Breast Cancer 3-Day on Aug. 8-10 in Chicago...
