I finally broke down and retired my favorite silk base layer shirt. Poor old thing was more holes than anything.
It joins the platy bladder that managed to spring a pin hole leak.
So long fellers.

I tossed out an orange nylon pup tent last week, vintage 1974.

I had cut a hole in the end so I could string a hammock through it, 200 years ago.   I forgot my air mattress one weekend (pre-thermarest) so I slept in the el cheapo 'backpackers hammock'..... set up inside the pup tent.

I just found my first wicking t-shirt (rei used gear sale $.80) that I bought about 7yrs ago. Nasty as hell but still usable, I wore it running this morn. It smells. Its not quite ready to retire...yet.

I draw the line at throwing out my old jungle boots. They are some of the last Vietnam era jungle boots to be issued from the Ft Benning CIF facility. I've been wearing them since 1992. Thats a bunch of miles on several continents. The steel shank, fabric liner, cardboard form thingy, and drain eyelets have all come out. They are just canvas uppers, leather, and slick soles. They sure feel like butter though.

currahee, at somepoint I got rid of my old pair that were identical to those. I dont know when but was looking for them this summer, I was very bummed. They rocked.

Birch, those are my field boots from battalion. When they finally do go, I still have my spits. They are still in pretty darn good shape.

Currahee, same with mine. I remember when we got issued that black pieces of S H I T jungle boots, the stitching above the heal would fail in 6-8wks, I am glad we could DX em. I dont have my spits anymore, I wish I did. I still have my Danner "go devils" but they dont get out much.
