“Funny this thread should come up today. Yesterday, my neighbors got their son 5 week-old chicks for his birthday. Only $1.75 each at Tractor Supply. If any are roosters, they go a nearby farm and they get a free replacement chick that will hopefully be a hen.

“crash, my son has one of those chickens and they make an aweful lot of racket lol. he walks around holding by the neck and shaking it aver 5 seconds. It sqawcks, screaches, plays the chicken dance song and a few other obnoxious noises. He loves that thing so much. Its hilarious to watch”

“Strat, you can find free plans all over the internet. We found tons while looking for rabbit hutch plans.

I think one of the coolest coop designs for a small flock is the rolling coop. You can move it around the yard so the birds have fresh ground/bugs.

We have a close friend who has fantastic luck with his Ameraucana hens. They're very hardy and their eggs are the most gorgeous shades of blue and green. They lay like crazy and mature early.

“One of my neighbor's chickens has these cool stripes on it. She named it "General Tso." Every time I pick it up it goes to sleep in my hands. "Noodle," on the other hand, is very dominant and if you have any moles or freckles will try to remove them for you.”

“One of my neighbors chicks is still only a handful, but has already started harassing the cat and isn't afraid of the 2 dogs, who are about 100/ 130 lbs each, respectively. I think that one is a rooster, but who knows? ;D”
