Masked sea-level rise:
Pasted from another site -

"Evidence that things are actually much worse than they seem. Just as
Global Dimming masks Global Warming, the mega-dams are masking sea
level rise. Since the era of the mega-dam is nearing its end, the
sea level rise will accelerate dramatically.

As everyone who follows this subject knows, the Earth is
complicated. But no one should allow complication to provoke passive
confidence regardless pollution's impact upon the Earth.

We should handle the Earth carefully, but we do not. We have already
harmed the Earth to a horrendous degree, but we're not stopping.
Scientists have warned humankind of the dangers yet humankind refuses
to make any sacrifices, just as the smoker disregards the threat of
cancer for the sake of another cigarette.

At a time in which the human population approaches nine billion this
sort of reckless behavior is a crime against humanity. Pushing the
Earth beyond its limits is an effective means of exterminating
humankind from the Universe, but we love our economy more than we
love our survival.

But it is not reasonable to argue with an addict. An addict wins
every argument with the next fix. When the drug becomes everything
life becomes nothing."

Global dimming results from the soot, smoke and dust injected into the atmosphere by human activities such as farming, heavy construction, industrial emissions, and wanton burning of forests and fields.

I have yet to see evidence that global cooling is underway.

Well, since there isn't an increased rate of temperature rise, and no significant temperature rise in a decade, apparently if there is "global warming", it's being counteracted by something. Probably global cooling.

WTF? I just did a quick search because it's been so long since I had geology, but something like 3% of the total volume of water is fresh surface water, and only 2% of that is accounted by rivers. I fail to see how a fraction of a percent less/more accounted for by dams is going to make a catastrophic difference.

It's getting pretty pathetic the way the Consensus is holding on to its cash cow "global warming". We could enter an ice age, and they'd still be bleating about how the world would have warmed up if it wasn't for all those cooling factors. LOL No amount of holes in their theory or contradictory evidence will convince them they're wrong. It's a religion.

I've always argued with scientific facts on the topic of ID/Evolution, and never have argued Biblical theory. In fact, I don't agree with young-earth theory, so you are just blowing smoke, as usual.

I have, on the other hand, argued that science supports the theory of a designer.

Tilt, the reason I argue so vehemently against the Global Warming Crowd is not that they propose it as a neat THEORY. They want to use it to create the "crisis" mode which Liberals and Socialists have always sought to build so that they can easily move their belief's ahead.

The very fact that your leaders of the movement don't really seem to believe the very crap they are spreading is MORE than evidence enough for me.

I'm stepping inta the shigpit fer a minute. Now, I really do believe we're crapping up the planet. Regardless of our trashing the planet up at a fast rate or a slower rate, it really don't much matter to me, it's just pretty obvious that Earth is gittin kikt in the groin. Debating "Global Warming" is a distraction, same for the "Sea-Level Rise" theory.

These threads come and go on Global Warming here, and everywhere I'd guess, so I don't want to regurgitate scientific facts that support one side or the other. Both sides of the arguement have hard, fast, good facts. So somebody hike along with me for a minute......
Let's take away the Christian thought for now, for in the Bible it don't matter if we crap up the planet or not.
Based only on metaphysical forces, is it agreeable that the Earth's flora and fauna have been operating for millions, hundreds of millions or a billion even, of years pretty much the same way?? No? There have been some somewhat slight warming periods, and some somewhat cooling periods, temperate flunctuations lasting decades and sometimes centuries. Is this too pretty agreeable?? In these millions of years there is evidence that a major catastophe or 2 or 3 has occured, like the one ending dinosaurs.... no??

So what's different?? Look at man. In only the last 2 hundred years man has invented the engine. And in these last cupla hundred years, he's made .... what, billions of them, all burning oil fuels. These billions of engines are perhaps now tens of billions of engines. And with the modernization of HUGE countries with HUGE poor populations, India and China, probably over the next fitty or hundred years or so these oil fuel burning engines and machines might number in the hundreds of billions. Is this a grossly exaggerated assessment? I don't thank so.

Now look at man again. He/she is humping at an astounding rate, perhaps in a hurry to outdo the rat or cockroach, I don't know. Last I seen, we were at about 6.5 Billion, somebody above said nearly 9 bil, but I've not seen that one yet. All those ppl eating, shlting, devouring, and consuming resources of Earth ....no?

How can these last 200 years, or even 100 years, not horribly affect our planet??? This new planetary activity is but a blip in our planet's living history, and this blip is so completely different in it's resource burning and use, how can this NOT be detrimental to the planet's future success???
I mean even for the most ardent Bush supporters, wouldn't this assessment be reasonable??? (Poking a lilbit at Bush don't mean I thank any better of the Democrats, which I don't.)

Bush and his buddies in the fuel and power industries like Chevron, General Electric and BP have agreed that climate change is occuring and is substantially human-generated.   I'm inclined to think it's a PR ploy and that they are fighting tooth and nail behind the scenes.

It's like Exxon's media campaign showing blue skies, chirping birds and fluffy white clouds while their army of lawyers work to dodge their responsibility in Prince William Sound.

You'd think that with all that's been going on in the oil market as of late, now would be the perfect time to discharge that responsibility without hitting the bottom line so hard and be able to spin it into more fluffy, blue sky PR.

It's not like they're strapped for cash,   < WINK >).   A billion here, a billion there.....   it begins to add up, though.

I wonder if Alyeska ever managed to get their emergency equipment shipshape in case of another accident.   One of the networks did a followup a few years later and they were no more prepared than they were the night the Exxon Valdez ran aground.   You'd think they'd have gotten a clue.

naked ape - the numbers go like this:

1 million people... 10,000 years ago
100 million people... 2500 years ago
1 billion people... 1804
2 billion people... 1927
3 billion people... 1960
4 billion people... 1974
5 billion people... 1987
6 billion people... 1999
7 billion people... 2013
8 billion people... 2028
9 billion people... 2054
10 billion people... 2200

Things start to level out in about 40 years, taking 150 more to level out at 10 billion. Notice how quickly we went from 1 billion people (pre-industrialization) to today at over 6 billion. Only 200 years. And we'll almost double again in 200 more.

No wonder we are having so many problems.

I got the stats from a UN white paper I found online. Scary that just in the Baby Boomer's lifetimes the world population will have gone from 2.5 billion to 8.5 billion. Never before and never again will that happen in one, or even 2, 3 or 4 generations. Scary.
