GIS PDF Topos
This may be old news to most TTers but I am posting this anyway. The USGS site has PDF scans of topo maps that are downloadable for free. In addition to this a Geo tool bar for Adobe Acrobat is available to use with these maps. The combination allows you to find coordinates, measure distances, plot routes ect.

On the USGS site use the map locator, in Step One enter the desired quad, state. This will place a marker in the map window, click the marker and download the desired map.

now, how do you print a huge 15 minute series topo? My printer sure can't handle it.

I got one of our draftmen to plot it on 24x36 and it looked ok. You can also zoom in to a small area and print current view.
