“I know a few of you (richB and jimmysan) are into making gear. I am looking into modifying a pack and have some questions. Does anyone have a good source for fastex buckles, 1" cordura webbing and a very heavy duty nylon thread, I plan to use a sewing awl for most of the heavy work. Thanks in advance.” 4:53:04 PM 3/19/08 “Don't know for sure but my mom is a seamstress and she goes to seattlefabrics when she needs technical/specialized stuff.” 4:55:49 PM 3/19/08 “is that online? welcome back btw. *edit, duh its online. I just checked. Looks good at first glance. Thanks last edited: 3/19/08 4:52:07 PM” 4:57:11 PM 3/19/08 “Thanks. Good luck with your project. I don't know if that'll help but it's worth checking.” 5:02:20 PM 3/19/08 “There used to be a company called FrostLine that sold kits you could sew at home and they may sell parts and pieces. Nice to hear you're adding the beer can holders to the top of your pack. The baseball helmet wasn't you.” 5:14:34 PM 3/19/08 “Nigal, do knock the beer helmet. I recall you looking on with envy as I drank hands free. I am making sass one of the beer bra thingies. I will check out frost line. Thanks.” 5:34:47 PM 3/19/08 “Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics stocks what you are looking for. I'm pretty sure Quest outfitters does too.” 5:52:35 PM 3/19/08 “Frostline Kits have been gone for some time. I used many a Frostline kit in my younger days. They were using a very good quality of polyester thread, nothing overly special. I use just general sewing machine thread but not cotton. Nor would I use nylon. A good quality pure polyester thread would be best. Cotton would be subject to rot and mildew. I would not even suggest the cotton wrapped threads. Nylon is strong but it stretches and can be a real bear to use as well as unreliable under stress. Green Pepper is a place I would check out. They have fabrics and zippers and all that stuff as well as patterns. http://www.thegreenpepper.com/downloads/thegreenpepper_sale_flyer.pdf” 5:54:48 PM 3/19/08 “Thanks for all the info. I will check it out ASAP.” 6:00:02 PM 3/19/08 “OWF rocks.” 3:26:06 AM 3/20/08 “OWF rocks.” bacpac No Doubt, I was able to find everything I need for my project. The prices arent too sahabby either. He's all giddy about fabric. =)” 4:45:51 AM 3/20/08 “Thanks, I'm glad to hear that and I hope his project goes well. It's fun making modifications to gear. I modified store bought gear or made from scratch almost everything I use.” 5:04:34 AM 3/20/08 “"I am making sass one of the beer bra thingies." The store is a toy store to me. It is in North Seattle, over on Hwy 99.” 4:52:11 PM 3/20/08 “I checked seattle fabrics but they dont habve what I need/want. I hope to get the mods done soon but realistically it'll be late april.” 5:27:52 PM 3/20/08
