Ever made the Top Ten list?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 17 of 17 messages posted.
Our town did. “Our town made the Outdoor Life list of places to hunt and fish in the US. We're number 7. http://www.outdoorlife.com/article_gallery.jsp?ID=1000019027&page=9” 6:50:23 AM 3/21/08 “7th is the 6th loser” 6:52:57 AM 3/21/08 “I heading that way, another hotspot to knock off” 6:55:52 AM 3/21/08 “So we're really number 6?” 7:00:26 AM 3/21/08 “Well, goody. Look out for the thundering herd that's headed your way:)” 7:16:39 AM 3/21/08 “I've never made any lists that I'm know of; however, I have no doubt that I rank #1 on many people's #2 lists ...” 8:00:30 AM 3/21/08 “lol @ Q.” 8:03:43 AM 3/21/08 “i'm the first ten in my own top ten list” 8:56:29 AM 3/21/08 “what Nimblefoot said.... very true. Ever since Mt Rogers hit the backpacker magazine and Outside magazine 5 years ago and again 2 years ago and even last year in Backpacker again, this area is swamped with way too many people during the summer months.... BOY SCOUTS average group size is 25, and I have seen as many as 50 at one time and how they get away with it is saying there are 2 and 3 groups, but they are always together.” 2:48:44 PM 3/21/08 “Jeez, I visited Mount Rogers in August in the early 80s and only met one person in four days. Had the blueberries on Pine Mountain all to myself - big fat, juicy, sweet blueberries. I raided the bear's food stash, I did!” 3:54:40 PM 3/21/08 “Geobeet, I was there as well during the 80's and no one at all. The weekends are of course the worst of crowds. I have sat at Wilburn Ridge Western most ridge and watched more than 100 people in a hour pass by and seen more than 50 people at one time at Rodo gap.” 4:21:22 PM 3/21/08 “Why were you peeking at those people? Man, you got some issues.” 4:31:38 PM 3/21/08 “"BOY SCOUTS average group size is 25, and I have seen as many as 50 at one time and how they get away with it is saying there are 2 and 3 groups, but they are always together." I was just at my local REI this fine afternoon and witnessed many a scout and "leader" getting ready for the upcoming assault on the mighty fine trails of the Great Lakes State.” 4:59:57 PM 3/21/08 “Marquette is an awesome place! Congrats. Michigan is a great place to live.” 5:45:51 PM 3/21/08 “I used to live in Southport NC. A few years ago it was rated in the top 10 places to retire in the U.S. according to Good Morning America. (whoopee)” 8:57:19 PM 3/21/08 “Lovely Lanesboro - which isn't too far from me (like, I was covering their school board meeting last Thursday night) - has made all kinds of lists. Like "Outside Magazine's Top 20 Best Places to Live in 2004" (and this was its second time on the list...) There was a short summary article, then the town listings led off with Lanesboro, including a nearly full page color photo of its downtown. http://outside.away.com/outside/destinations/200408/best_american_dream_towns_2.html And Lanesboro was also on this list in 1998: "100 Best Small Art Towns in America" by author John Villani (and that was before the new $1.3 million theatre opened last year, which by the way, blends into the National Historic District main street) And you guys WONDER why I don't move out West?!??! ;-P) However, I also don't live in that town, which can get a bit busy on summer weekends. BUT I think our Trail Talk crew that went canoeing on the Root River in 2006 did enjoy Das Wurst Haus for German food in Lanesboro! LOL! (speaking of which, I just saw The Goat, aka the Viking, and need to post a photo and report....) last edited: 3/23/08 11:19:17 AM” 11:15:53 AM 3/23/08 “Oh crap (speaking of LQ's No. 2 lists)... I forgot to add for Lanesboro - and I'm not sure what year this was: "One of the 50 Best Outdoor Sports Towns by Sports Afield magazine" Lanesboro likes lists. ;-P LOL!” 11:37:32 AM 3/23/08
