“ ![]() ![]() Hi I am Brandi. My new mom and dad let me on to the backpacker because I want to go backpacking with them. I have never gone backpacking before but I have hunted coon and that is how I lost my first mommy and daddy. I was out huntin' for my first time, too soon as I am just near 1 year old and I got distracted and lost in the big scary woods but some budy picked me up from animal control and aminal control gave me to some very nice people who take care of hound dogs like me where I got my girl parts taken away. It was nice there I got to live with a little lemon begal and a very big hound and some kids too who I am very nice with. Then some guy on a farm adopted me but his big mean dog tried to tear out my throat and I had to go to the dog hospital and back to the nice people who help hounds. Then today, my new mommy and daddy came. They met with all my buddies and even the tiny little puppy too. They were very nice and did not get mad at me when I jumped on them a couple times. I almost knocked over my new mommy once because I am pretty big I guess. But they fell in love with me and I got to go into a car ride and drive a while. Now and then I would smell something out the window and start howling. I like coons and big rats. When we got to my new home I went peepee out side ont he grass and then investigated everything inside, there were so many neat smells! But after about an hour or so I settled in and found a bone and carried it into my crate. Then mommy said after I started getting rambunctious "lets go for a walkie" and we got the leesh and we took a walk. At first I pulled and barked real loud at other dogs and wagged my tail at kids. I really like kids. But mommy told me that I had to walk right bedside her so I started doing that real well. So we went back home and I was so happy to be there that I followed mommy around the house a lot then sat on her when she sat on the coucn and then I took a nap. I am still sleepy but I was dreaming and wanted to sit by my new mommy as she types stuff. All the nice neighbors came to meet me and I was good and did not jump on them except for the boy who mommy says might take care of me sometime if they go places without me. He gave me a big hug. Mommy says I am good in the house but I still feel like chassing the cats when I see them but I will learn cause mommy shakes a can at me and distracts me. Mommy says I'm pretty good on a leesh but still needs to learn a few manners before I can go backpacking. Also I'm good cause I don't beg for people food. See how big my feets are? I will be a good backpacker.” 2:41:06 PM 3/22/08 “pretty dog SC. Congrats, and thanks for rescuing one.” 2:51:44 PM 3/22/08 “Is that a hound or pointer? Pretty dog, and likes to chase cats, what a great thing for dogs to do. lol” 3:06:54 PM 3/22/08 “Mean, the house jsut seemed so empty without a dog. I was told about this one through word of mouth and got in touch with RobDar's HoundSong Rescue and Sancuary of the Midwest who were WONDERFUL and thier dogs are well loved in thier care, fostered by loving families.” 3:10:55 PM 3/22/08 “Brandi = Sarge.” 3:11:18 PM 3/22/08 “Mudhole she is a English Tri-Color Coonhound.” 3:11:46 PM 3/22/08 “kleeten, you got to admit, if that's true, sarge is cute lol.” 3:12:22 PM 3/22/08 “What a cute dog! She'll make a good backpacker dog!” 3:12:25 PM 3/22/08 “windi, I think so too, but she gets excited when she sees other dogs so I have to work on a few manners yet but she is VERY SMART and fits right into the household already. Withen two hours she learned already not to bark/howl at everyone outside. She has a VERY loud bark lol. Now she kust goes to the window but doenst bark, just wags her tail a lot. thats how fast she learns lol Such a good sweet dog.” 3:20:07 PM 3/22/08 “That is SOOO cool....I love rescues. They are just a hoot.” 4:06:00 PM 3/22/08 “She's going to be a great running partner...when i jog she keeps the same pace and that helps to keep her from getting so distracted too.” 4:12:46 PM 3/22/08 “So you going take her coon hunting, squirrel, hunting, cat hunting, bear hunting, hog hunting,. Then out to supper?” 4:19:57 PM 3/22/08 “English Tricolor? Looks like an English Walker mixed with a bluetick and possibly a red tick somewhere in the mix.” 4:32:16 PM 3/22/08 “"These dogs comes in the following colors: red and white ticked, blue and white ticked, tri-colored with ticking, red and white, and white and black. The dogs that are tricolor can be disqualified in the show ring. On the whole these dogs are swift, hot-trailing, competitive hounds, that are good hunters. English coonhound photos along with available breeders and kennels, can be found on the Internet."” 4:33:56 PM 3/22/08 “she looks like a wondeful dog, it's good that you rescued her, i'm a big believer in rescues. i was at a dog event today that had alot of rescued dogs there for a reunion. btw, sorry about your other dog passing away, i went through that with surfergirl a few years back and i had no idea that i would take it so hard. but now she has monty an spca labradoodle rescue. he loves the water!” 4:37:04 PM 3/22/08 “What a sweetie!” 5:39:57 PM 3/22/08 “too cool! congrats sc and cmb. can't wait to meet her.” 5:46:16 PM 3/22/08 “She's beautiful SC. Rescues are the only way to go. :) My mom rescued a black and tan. Best dog she's ever had.” 5:57:33 PM 3/22/08 “Nicely done! Bailing'em out of doggie jail is the way to go.” 6:00:51 PM 3/22/08 “I think she is going to be fairly easy to train as dogs go. She seems to know some comands already when she isnt too distracted. Today I tought her how to shake paws and she's already picking it up! I know I'm going to have a lot of fun with this dog. last edited: 3/22/08 6:56:09 PM” 7:02:57 PM 3/22/08 “they aint no coons in england!” 7:17:08 PM 3/22/08 “Curahee...a few come over from the islands and other former british colonies.” 10:16:34 PM 3/22/08 “She looks just like my old dog Duke. Great find!” 3:08:11 AM 3/23/08 “Nice dog, thanks for the rescue.............blessings on Brandi........” 4:11:43 AM 3/23/08 “Boy, hounds sure keep you warm at night....” 6:45:27 AM 3/23/08 “This dog just LOVES children. I mean, when i'm out walking, if she even hears a kid somewhere, her tail starts wagging so hard she nearly falls over LOL! I can only guess she must of been raised with children. I bet she whould love to go on the kids trip. I jsut don't know if I can trust her yet with other dogs. I need a calm paitient dog that I can test her with. She fine with strangers too. Just wags her tail like mad when she sees them. She did ok with dogs in her foster home but on her walks she jsut gets very excitable. Don't know if its agression, I don't thank so. She DID get upset over a garbage can that had been on it's side LOL! Boy did she get upset over that. I don't think she's ever seen a garbage can on it's side like that before. LOL!” 7:24:02 AM 3/23/08 “ok, all these new dog toys and all she wants to play with is a pop bottle. LOL!” 8:19:23 AM 3/23/08 Shes welcome on the April Trip. “Should you decide to join the April NCT trip your puppy is welcome along too. http://www.thebackpacker.com/trips/trip/1342.php I've hiked with my dog and although fun, its a lot of added work for me anyway. Also, there was one trip where I had thought about bringing her along and didn't, good thing too, not one mile into the hike and a porcupine is sitting smack-dab in the middle of the trail. If I would have had her unleashed like I do, she probably would have had a face full of quills and the trip would have been over. Just something to consider, and although, rare, it does happen and if not treated will kill the dog. Porkies aren't the cleanest animals (they sleep atop their own dung,) so those quills can also infect the wounds as well, quickly. last edited: 3/23/08 8:46:14 AM” 8:52:23 AM 3/23/08 “This would be a dog that would not go off leash. Once scent of a coon and she'd be off (she was trained as a hunter and has a strong nose) thanks for the offer :) But, i really need to condition and train her for the trail frist before i can do a trip with her.” 8:55:02 AM 3/23/08 Good idea “Yeah, if shes a dog that would go astray or take off on ya, then shes probably not ready for a hiking trip? I mean, it wouldn't be fun for you always having the dog tied-off to you, and always having to make sure she wouldn't run away. Believe me at the end of a long day, it not always fun having to tend or deal with a dog, sometimes but not always though. Its much easier for those that have their dogs well trail trained too. My dog does a good job of staying with the group but likes to run ahead, then run back to the group, she must think, shes the scout or something. If we hike 10 miles, she does 20 miles easy, with all the running back and worth. If I ever took her again, I'd keep her on a leash, although this gets old after awhile. Shes a BIG Chicken too, when nightfall comes shes the first in the tent, and won't even come out. Dogs can hear and smell a lot of things we can't, so all those wild animal scents shes not used too, must freak her out? last edited: 3/23/08 9:08:22 AM” 9:13:19 AM 3/23/08 “Shes pretty good on a leesh, and I think she'd do well hiking, but since we just got her, i'd want to test run her a bit before signing her onto a trip, to make sure she wouldn't drive anyone nuts. I'm not one of those people who think that jsut because I love my dog, means everyone else will too. I want to make sure she is super well behaved and trained first.” 9:18:25 AM 3/23/08 “hi Sarge.” 6:00:54 PM 3/23/08 “Oh no, Sarge has now taken over Spirit Coyote.” 6:56:39 PM 3/23/08 “ (talkin' to the guy in the dog suit) ” 9:54:43 PM 3/24/08 “LOL.... Brandi thought it would be the world's funnest thing last night to body slam me in my sleep LOL! I went to bed but brandi wasn't tired yet (she'd slept all day when we were at work) so a few minutes later, here comes the dog, all wagging tail, looking for mischief and she freakin pounces on me. Just jumps up. all four feet off the ground and lands on me, all 55 lbs of Brandi. Oh she thought that was the best fun! I had to wrastle with her for that one (who can resist) lol” 7:18:07 AM 3/25/08 “Hmmm, why are all the girls I know named Brandi or Brandy are abit bimbo-ish? Nice dog btw...” 9:35:21 AM 3/25/08
