My Uncle being the ever generous individual he is thought it good to give me back some of the money he stole from me this year.

With that in mind I am needing a new tent. I have been looking at the Kelty Grand Mesa 2.

Unfortunately I can not find any testimonials on this specific tent. Does any one out there have anything to say about the Kelty Grand Mesa 2? If not what is the general opinion of Kelty tents. Supposedly they are factory tapped but would I still need to seal the seams?

Though it is a front entry it does afford what seems like a decent vestibule area.

Any thoughts?

Generally, Kelty equipment is pretty good. I would caution that the tent you listed is a little on the heavy side for such a tight fitting two person tent.

Factory taped seams should be good to go, but if you are worried about it, set it up in the yard; hose the thing down and look for leaks. One issue I have encountered is that factory taped seams "de-laminate" after a while, that's why I avoid that type of technology.

The price is certainly good for a free standing tent. There looks to be good sitting headroom. It is heavier that some two person tents like the the Hubba-Hubba or some of the Big Agnes tents but the price is sweet. If two are hiking you can split the weight. I've owned several Kelty tents and the quality is good although they tend to sag if not staked out perfectly. But for 99 bucks it is hard to beat.

Looks like a great deal. Heck, I might get one!

et al,
I looked at the Big Agnes label as well as many others but I am on a very tight budget and so far this is the lightest 2 person for the buck. It is far lighter than the JanSport trail dome I had for almost 20 years,I just hope I will get as good a service out of this as I did the TD.
