Hyway is right. Have fun with it. Sorry about stressing the paying attention so hard britt. As you could probably tell that was/is a pet peeve of mine.

small field on the NC/SC border. I went with a skydiving club that also offered lessons, if it didn't chute time for their current club members. That was before tandem jumps became the most popular first jump of choice. These guys had me hanging onto the wing strut with my legs flying straight out behind me with my chute hooked by static line to the plane. When they said go, it was up to us to let go of the strut and let the plane fly away from us LOL.

Wow. so i guess mentioning that i've done a tandem makes me lame, huh. haha. the boyfriend is/was a skydiver so ive spent some time on the dropzone. i love to watch, but dont trust myself to fly the parachute. lots of respect for all those who went through static line. im not sure i could let go!!!

I didn't mean to say it was lame. At the time static line was cheaper than tandem. Now it seems that the jump courses I've looked up stress the tandem jumps first. I envy you that you got to freefall. I never got that far. You had to do 5 static line jumps before we could freefall. also, it wasn't that big a deal handling the chute. I had a walkie talkie speaker mounted on the shoulder harness and the ground guys could communicate with us and tell us what to do if we got ourselves into trouble

oh, i didnt think you truly meant it in a derragatory (sp?) manner. a tandem was perfect for me, b/c i have a slight fear of heights and would have frozen, were i not attached to someone who wasnt really giving me the option of going or not!! it was amazing, and i think that maybe one day i would like to do a static line or aff jump. but for right now scuba is a much better match for my personality/fears. ;D

He is right. Scuba is a very safe sport if you stay with in the limits set by your training and gear. There is no room for the beer and hey y'all watch this attitude. Dang hyway. I am agreeing with you way to much today.

I know a couple of tech cave divers. They do trimix, deep and long dives. They have to stage bottles and do the half a day decompression thing on the way out. Those guys are nuts.

i have No need or desire to be the center of attention, or a showoff. i really just want to learn it, and to learn it well, and safely!! so that i can go on trips and explore (take pictures!!!) with my boyfriend and other scuba diver friends. :)

plus. the class wasnt exactly cheap. im taking this seriously! haha.

You say that now, but just wait for the first time you dive on a wreck or a flooded building in a quarry, and that open hatch way is beckoning you inward :). Its hard to resist

Rent gear before you buy, then read up on the gear you like or other pple's gear that you see that you like.

Your bud just got a new pair of apollo biofins, ask to borrow them in the pool....you may love them....or hate them..and at over 100 bucks, hating them sucks.

Try to stay out of quarries....i hate them...you may love them.

buy a good, wetsuit that fits!!!

Pee in your suit, and spit in your mask...don't get those mixed up.

LOL. thank you opie. that was very funny and insightful. :D
already bought my first wetsuit, but the owner of the shop thoroughly checked it out before he would let me buy it. im not quite used to the neck being so tight (aka CHOKING ME) yet, but ive heard it gets a bit more comfortable in the water.
other then that im borrowing my boyfriends gear before buying anything else.
pee in suit, spit in mask. got it. :D

hahaha, too true.

renting/borrowing gear first goes for nearly every sport you get into. Backpacking gear isn't cheap either.

"Patchouli (also patchouly or pachouli) is bushy herb of the mint family, with erect stems, reaching two or three feet (about 0.75 metre) in height and bearing small pale pink-white flowers. The plant is native to tropical regions of Asia and is now extensively cultivated in Caribbean countries, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Philippines, West Africa and Vietnam.

The scent of patchouli is heavy and strong. It has been used for centuries in perfumes and continues to be so today. The word derives from the Tamil patchai பச்சை (green), ellai இலை (leaf)."

wiki is your friend!! :)
it is not a pleasant smell. at least not to me. many people associate it with hippies. its like stinky deoderant to cover stinky B.O.

and wet people can smell worse then wet dogs. but hey, if you all smell, who cares!!! :)
