Less than 30 days!!!
Hey guys, we are getting close to this trip, and I'm having a really hard time getting in touch with everyone, so I listed it public.

If you are part of the support crew, please chime in about where you want to stay on Friday and Saturday nights. We need to make reservations for a group campsite in Delaney Park, and to do that we need to know how many nights to book it for. You can either stay on the trail for free with the hikers, or car camp and party down, but you will be driving more. It's up to you since I won't be there.

HIKERS: Please check-in and update your status so I have an accurate head count. Attendees would be wise toorder your trail map from the IDNR as soon as possible if you don't already have one. Also be sure you have thoroughly read the trip description, and are physically prepared for this type of trip. It is going to be extremely difficult.
Thank you.

Man, if I wasn't going to be in Atlanta that weekend I would bring my RV to the park and have burgers, beer, and a comfortable place for you guys to chills when you got off the trail.

You're a god Nigal. LOL!

Birch, I understand. Be careful in your travels. We'll see you in May right?

Dub, perhaps next time. I may make this an anual trip if this works out well.

Windi, we'll miss you.

Dhutch, lets rock and roll! I can't wait!

0600 - Mile 0 - Leave Deam Lake TH and hike north

0900 - Mile 8.75 - Break at Pixley Knob TH and first water drop. Leave at 0930.

1300 - Mile 16.75 - New Chapel TH lunch break and water drop. Leave at 1400.

1700 - Mile 24.5 - Leota TH This will be the last water drop for the day, so load up! It's 7 miles and a camp to the next drop. Leave at 1730.

2000 - Mile 30 - camp

0600 - Mile 30 - hike on!

0630 - Mile 31.5 - Elk Creek TH Water drop only. Leave at 0645.

0845 - Mile 37.25 - Oxley Memorial TH Water drop, first break. Leave at 0915.

1210 - Mile 46 - Delaney Park DONE!

This is an incredibly ambitious schedule. It is based on a moving average of 3mph, and short breaks. That would put us finishing the trail in 30 hrs 10 min. and is only approximate times but this is a brutal pace to maintain on this trail. I know it will take everything I have to maintain that and I'm not sure I can, but I am really excited to find out! Again I have no intentions of going home the same day the trail is finished. I will need lots of rest and food before I go anywhere. All are welcome to join me car camping in Delaney Sunday night and driving out Monday morning.

I am open to suggestions from any one so feel free to chime in and tweak anything you want.”

I just thought I would repost our itinerary here to make sure all are aware of our approximate schedule. Please look over this carefully, so you are aware of the pace that will be required.

might i make a suggestion?

since youre planning on having support, just carry a daypack until your last road-stop before camping. otherwise, youre really going to have trouble maintaining your schedule

but seeing as how youre figuring on finishing at just a little past noon, falling behind wont hurt ya

Well, that is an option for any that might want to Crash. I'll be bringing all my shlt with me though. I guess I'm just masochistic like that. LOL!
Actually, it's just for the added challenge, and as you stated - if I fall behind, it won't matter.

you know whatd be really interesting if you were REAAAAAAALLY bored? start at the north end of the monon trail in carmel, take that as far south as you can, finish walking the rest of the way thru indy, then walk down state road 37 to morgan monroe, hook up with the tecumseh trail, take that to hoosier national forest, then by trail and by forest service roads, work your way down to the north end of the knobstone, thru hike that to the southern terminus, then walk the country roads down to kentucky, cross the border, and get on the sheltowee, and take that all the way down to bsf. i dunno what after that. maybe work your way down to the smokies

We never made it either! HA! There is a really high (for the red) thin bald ridge that looks like it would be a challenge to get on top of but it would be a really bad azz place to camp! Though, it wouldn't accept too many tents, so a group of 6 or 8 might be a max.

...oh and my homemade hard cider is best but i haven't made it in 10 years and have none left... it's VERY easy to make but you must be patient.

Can it be made in 2 months Yogi?
I bet you have all the equipment needed, don't you?
Captain Jack

3/29/08

all you need is cider, sugar, and plastic jugs. it is very easy to make. the cider needs to not have any preservatives in it. you can boil the cider (pasturize it) but then you have to add back in yeast. i never did this but just used the natural yeast that is in the cider. it takes about 6 months start to finish if you want a good product... a little longer if you want it carbonated rather than still. i like cider that is crisp and clean and perhaps just a little sweet.
Yogisan

oh, and you can get seriously sh*t faced on this stuff... it is deceptive to drink... just apple juice after all!
Yogisan

3/29/08

really? like milk jugs?
Damn. 6mo. is too long. Crash will be back before then. Maybe he likes Egg Nog too.

I could whip up a gallon or so of Nog, but if we're camping in the Red in June that won't work so well. Sheet! I guess I'll have to try to find Woodchuck in bottles then.

Hey, next ime you get out that way gimme a holler, and I'll come have lunch with you guys or something. If you take out on 36, there's a great little pizza place just south of Groveland. Everything's homemade - SO good. If you are up by North Salem the Red Dog Saloon is legendary for it's apple wood grilled steaks on the weekends, and they have nice lunch specials etc too.
I could even help set up shuttles possibly. Sundays are best for that type of stuff.

i am back to seriously considering this trip. i am looking for a good benchmark activity to see if i am making progress for the peak bagging trip this august. the longest day i ever hiked was a 25 and it was like falling from a tall building... a lot of fun until i hit the bottom.
