First of all, I must apologize to the Lorax for having to go ahead and plan this trip. I've tried getting ahold of you my friend (left a couple of voicemails on your cell phone) but have not had any success.

I'm extending an offer to any brave folk out there that would like to join me on a hike through the BWCA. Yes, it is a hike. And , Yes, it is in April (about two weeks from now). It's become tradition the past 3 years to do a spring trip (normally with the Lorax). This year I have got to pull the pin early due to some scheduling issues -- would have preferred May. But May is not going to work.

There will be cold temps. There will likely be some spotty, left over snow. It will be quite wet in low standing areas -- but it is a beautiful time of the year to hike the area. I last hiked the BWCA in Mid-April 3 years ago and it may have been my best trip up there.

Any takers?

No Join ME?
Hey Mtn.Runner, make the trip down to N.L. Michigan and join us instead. We'll be snow free for this one, I hope? Maybe we can even talk CP into going on this one too?

Yep, and if the BWCA was closer to home, I'd consider it too though.

But to really appreciate the BWCA, canoing is the only way to go, ESPECIALLY if you like to FISH!

Ugh
I hike the BWCA for three reasons:

1. I can never get enough of hearing how the BWCA means you can only go there to canoe.

2. The hiking is beautiful.

3. It is some of the toughest hiking you will find in the Midwest.

Apology not nessesary, mountainrunner. It's been crazy, as you know for some time now with me. The best I'll be able to do sadly is a few days out in the kettles here and there and hopefully we can meet up to bang out a quick overnighter and some miles. I'm also going to do some hiking in Arizona the week after between some family visits and can not take off too much time to do anything due to departmental troubles at work.
Once again, life gets in the way.

However, I will say that the trails we have been on in the BWCA has been some of the best backpacking I've ever done. Veiws, varied terrain, rock water and sky. It doesn't get much better than that.

If it wasn't a 17 hour drive I'd be there. Is the ice even out that early?

The ice this time of year will likely be spotty still --- our first venture up there three years ago yielded most of the lakes still frozen in April.

Possibly... depends on my schedule, might be difficult in this short of notice.

What trail are you planning?

Simer,

Been in touch with Shadowhiker and we are looking at the Pow Wow this time around. I should have more details tonight. Will post again as soon as I have heard from him. If Shadowhiker is unable to make it..... I will likely go up to Snowbank again but this time try to hit a few different places I have not been. I think Lorax is a no go for this one.... which is really too bad because he and I started doing this annual trip three years ago or so..... but our schedules aren't lining up.....

I really look forward to this trip every year. It sucks that I have to cover so much in our department at work and we're down two positions. That leaves me to pick up all the slack.

49 more months to go and I never have to worry about work ever again.

Pow-wow is a good trail, I haven't hiked that one since I taught Nimblefoot how to backpack, I'd love to get up there and hike it again.

Ok, a little clarification..... Shadowhiker and myself will be able to go. We are going to go up and hit the Pow Wow trail. Pow Wow if you are not familiar with the BWCA is north of Duluth (which is in NE Minnesota) along the north shore near Isabella. If you need more info or directions ew can gladly get them to you. Hike will start Thursday, no set time yet. I'm thinking mid-morning. Total trip mileage, no idea ;)

Lorax, you get that time off yet to be with you sick cousin?

LOL, nimblefoot.

MR, nope, no BWCA for me right now. Trying to get some summer plans lined up. And will get into WIS more this year. I joined a conservation group that does a ton of field trips. Reminds me... I may have a proposition for Mr. FootBeNimble - a couple trips up in his area that I signed up for, but at this time have no one to go with. And supposedly I'm in on both...

Ha this thread just answered a lot of questions! Lorax, I was hoping you would be able to go. I enjoy your sense of humor. Call in sick man, you will always remember this trip and your job will be waiting for you when you return, if its not, well then, we'll plan another trip.

Simer190 I was hoping that you were asked to go as well, I enjoy your bear stories!

Lizs - email me, it's quite possible. I need to get out. Currently I'm on a consecutive bagless stretch of 18 months and I'm starting to become proud of it:)

Simer/Lorax --- Dude's. We've got one shot to make th annual spring trip. It would be a throw back to the original spring trip to the BWCA. I'm bringing tenderloins for the first night. You need to tell me you can make it and there will be one there for ya!! Come on, I shouldn't be taking the time off --- but come hell or high water I was not going to miss this.... Would love to have you guys along.
