I like to think I am looking at the "Big Picture"
1. I have not changed my belief system: I VERY MUCH believe in the "traditional" Republican / right-leaning philosophy of personal responsibility, etc.

2. I am still a believer / strong proponent of most "right-wing" philosophys.

The reason for my potential support of Obama is that I AM A REALIST!

wanderer, so what issue or issues have made you decide this. Just curious. I think its commendable that you are willing to move out of where you traditionally vote (not that I agree with your choice but thats neither here nor there).

My big question, is so what about this whole war thing. Where do you fall on that.

McCaine is the Man. Period.

How about GORE! where is he? He would stifle the democratic party if he should show up.

I second Birch's request for more info.

How does your notion of being a realist connect to your idea about what an Obama presidency would accomplish?

Is it a Play your fiddle while Rome burns vote? Ya know, let the democrats win, let them destroy the country and then wait for the big swing back to the right?

I don't understand how someone can be a "believer / strong proponent of most "right-wing" philosophys" but want to put into power one of the most left wing liberals to run for office in decades.

"Is it a Play your fiddle while Rome burns vote?"

McCain is the "fiddler" in this race.

The Bush Administration has hosed America and John Boy promises to stay the course.

"100 years of war..."

That numbskull would spend this nation even further into debt and wreck the furture for our children's children.

You can move government left. You can move it right, but you'll gain nothing until you run government out of business from the things it should not do. When americans understand that they can't run our own country let alone the rest of the world.

What will Obama do? What has he done?

He voted 'present' for a lot of votes.

Obama is a typical charasmatic good looking white colored guy who is half black. Promises promises. All I got to say is "Wheres the beef?"

If he does nothing he'd be ahead of the last 50 years of idiots that lived in the Gray House.

Claim bankruptcy and get the fed out of business. I'll vote for him then and even help cut him up in 50 pieces so each state gets a souvenir of the smartest man to stop trying to rule the world.

OK, I give up. I've been racking my brain and I can't come up with an answer, so I'm asking you, How does voting for Obama further these beliefs?

I was too early in this statement, part of me has great compassion for those who actually NEED the use of a "safty net" and I guess I WANTED to think Obama was a realistic deliverer of such services while not screwing up the economy.

Numerous recent comments have led me to the point where I have to admit he's the typical radical left-winger, his comment about taxing people because it was "fair" made me see the error of my ways.

Took almost a month? Take another month and figure out how an economy can be healthy without growth - That is the question that needs to be answered, Because our energy needs cannot allow growth until we chuck the fossil standard.

It is a flip-flop, I don't deny that. I am very sensitive to the needs of many folks for "safty net" services, primarily healthcare services, so I lean left on many of those issues. However I am also a big believer in self-responsibility & related matters usually labeled "right-leaning". Initially I wanted to believe that Obama wasn't the typical socialist-type, unfortuantely as more & more info on his positions has come to light he obviously is very much the radical lefty.

I'm watching a number of people I know battle cancer & some other chronic diseases, some of whom can't afford the healthcare services they would benefit from... it's the compassion that I feel for those people that made me want to believe in Obama's position on a few issues.

I think its "fair" to tax capital gains at the same level as wages.

Call me a name. I don't care - Jesus told me I'm right.

Moses told me they should cut taxes all the way around and abolish corporate taxes all together.

He also told me to tell you G-d saw what you were doing in the shower last night to yourself. :P
