Chimney Tops

“Hey i was just wondering if anyone has gone up the old trail to the Chimney Tops in the SMokies.
You can see the old trail clearly as you hike up the chimneys trail. It goes up the north face of the chimneys. I've seen the trail marked there on a 1950 trail map. And once on top of chimney you can walk all the way to the edge where the trail just drops off and there is now just a sign post (not sign).
I was just wondering how steep and overgrown the trail is. Peace.”

“I didn't ever realize there was a trail there. Next time I go up there, I will investigate and see if I can find an access.”

“so the trail actually goes to the top of the chimneyes?”

“Yes..and no. The trail goes up there, the NPS doesn't want you to go out on the rocks, but you can easily get there from the "official" end of the trail.”

“ive been to chimney tops from the official trail. i tried to climb the rocks but it was misty out which made the rocks too misty to climb.

but i was talking about the other, unoffical trail, that antelope brought up. he made it sound like the unofficial trail went to the top”

“A guy i worked for in Nashville said that he climbed the north face of the Chimney Tops. Said the trail was awesome, and a challenge”

Would you have to rope up, I mean?”
