Gremlin -- “As our representative Canadian from the St. Lawrence seaway - - - I was thinking of doing an auto-tour of the Gaspe Penninsula this summer with my family. Wife, 2 boys ages 10 and 13. Any perspective? Is it endless driving with quaint fishing village (okay for wife and me . ..not so much for the boys). other stuff to do? Worth doing? Can you wrap Nova Scotia, new brunswick or PEI into this . ..or do that blow it up to an unmanagable size?” 8:30:22 AM 4/16/08 “Forillon National Park is lovely. Ile Bonaventure(?) is quite a sight.” 8:59:03 AM 4/16/08 bump “bump” 5:39:23 AM 4/17/08 “your wife is 2 years old?” 5:42:22 AM 4/17/08 “I went from Fort Kent, ME to PEI on a whim once, and the drive was ~8 hours. I was by myself so didn't mind at all...I don't recall a lot that would ease the monotony of the long drive for two boys though. Maybe pick one or the other.” 5:52:17 AM 4/17/08 “Over the course of a 2 week vacation my wife and I spent a few days in Quebec City then drove up the Gaspe Peninsula then on to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We had a great time, but even with 2 weeks it was a lot of driving and if I were to do it again I would not try to cover that much ground. I'd spend more time in fewer places. It was a lot of quaint fishing villages and nice country side, which was great for us since we had no kids. Fort Louisbourg in Nova Scotia is a place a couple of boys might enjoy.” 7:22:31 AM 4/17/08 “Twig- 8 hours from FT Kent?! Which is what .. . .another 100 hours from Portland?!!! Conk - Thanks also. That is about the route I was tentatively eyeballing. And it did look like a lot of driving with 2 kids. CB -- commas. Know when to use them. Know when, not to.” 8:34:56 AM 4/17/08 “Portland! is that in Maine??? :)” 8:47:04 AM 4/17/08 “Pootland is prolly in Mane" ~Tweetigger No it aint (I am sawry). Pootland is at Abalamma.” 8:51:58 AM 4/17/08 “I don't know about Portland, but the lighthouse is in Maine. Of course, it's not in Portland, but Cape Elizabeth. York is located in North Jersey.” 8:55:08 AM 4/17/08 “We auto-toured the Gasp peninsula before we had kids. It was fun because the ex and I speak French and we would stop and get a handle on the night life - Easterners are extremely social in a beery sort of way. We went cod jigging too. Other than that the other posts are right on. Forillon Park is great for camping. I'm not sure that a road trip is the best thing for young children. I wouldn't do New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on the same trip. Good luck, Doug” 7:25:09 AM 4/18/08 “you got mail, you crazy canuck” 5:15:00 PM 6/24/08 “"cod jigging"? Puh-leeze, must we hear about your sex life on a public forum?” 4:45:56 AM 6/25/08 “You prefer private emails or breathy, hushed, late night phone calls?” 4:57:32 AM 6/25/08 “Just keep your cod piece on there chicken rancher and leave the doodle-doo alone. last edited: 6/25/08 5:31:45 AM” 5:26:11 AM 6/25/08 “bimp” 8:45:59 AM 6/25/08 “fnord!” 8:59:41 AM 6/25/08 “Djibouti” 9:06:52 AM 6/25/08 LOL, eh? “Thanks, Lyra, and pfththththt to al you perverts.” 12:48:13 PM 6/25/08 “I've done some jigging with my woodworking to accomplish specific tasks.” 12:52:03 PM 6/25/08 “And we've shared a dram (or two) while doing it, er, sawing wood, eh? Uh, firewood.” 12:54:54 PM 6/25/08 “Ha ha !! How much is a dram, anyway?” 12:58:17 PM 6/25/08 “The fluid dram is defined as 1⁄8 of a fluid ounce, which means it is exactly equal to * 3.696 691 195 312 5 mL in the United States and * 3.551 632 812 500 0 mL in the Commonwealth and Ireland. In the United Kingdom, a teaspoon was formerly defined as 1 fluid dram. Dram is also used informally to mean a small amount of liquid, especially Scotch whisky.” 1:01:29 PM 6/25/08 “back at you mark, you gots mail too.” 6:27:29 PM 6/25/08 “Last I heard (from transplanted Irish), it was like a screwcap full. As you were ---” 7:47:50 PM 6/25/08 “Well....................screw that!!” 3:50:09 AM 6/26/08 “That's about what I said, LOL” 6:21:28 AM 6/26/08 “You can say that again!” 6:49:36 AM 6/26/08 “I can say what again?” 8:51:25 AM 6/26/08 “A wee dram o scotch is whatever I say it is whenever I say it.” 9:31:25 AM 6/26/08 “Yowzuh, mister Geo!! Shall I bring the bottle, sir?” 9:52:57 AM 6/26/08 “Yazzah, a wee dram o' a bottle!” 10:39:51 AM 6/26/08 “YAHTZEE ! (oops --- nevermind)” 11:07:00 AM 6/26/08 “That's Yangtze to you mister!” 11:16:09 AM 6/26/08 “I always get those mixed up.” 11:22:07 AM 6/26/08 You Die, Yankee !! “ ”11:38:11 AM 6/26/08 “Good flick. I've seen all of it, but at different times. Never have sat through it from start to finish.” 12:46:28 PM 6/26/08 “http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06205/708130-122.stm Yup, I've never seen it from end-to-end either. I like the scene where McQueen is teaching Mako how to operate the steam boilers in the engine room of the USS San Pablo. "Stim, Stim!!"” 1:14:23 PM 6/26/08 “Looks like they had a problem translating 'sandpebble' into French. You knew Luke meant business when he whipped out that sabre! (it was the real McCoy)” 1:39:30 PM 6/26/08
