I would love to do that trail again, but I have to quit rehiking trails I have already hiked. I don't get out much and I know there are so many cool places still waiting to be experienced.

I am devastated. Fridge was my hero on this trip. He and his family will be in my prayers.

I am so terribly sorry to hear this. Just last weekend on the McAfee trip he spoke lovingly and proudly of both of his daughters. I cannot imagine any pain greater than losing a child. My thoughts and prayers are with Fridge, Calm Spirits and the rest of the family and friends.

I suspected something must be wrong if he wasn't posting, but I never thought it was something this horrible.

Frig and calm spirits, my thoughts and prayers are with both of you and the family.

Creek Dancer - pics 5 and 46 are most likely mountain fetterbush, Pieris floribunda
pic 6 is service berry (aka shad bush aka ...), Amelanchier arborea
pic 45 is toothwort, Cardamine concatenata aka Dentaria laciniata (older more commonly known name)

Cool. Thanks HOI. I figured you would know. Hmmmmm...so it's toothwort? I looked in three guides, and wood anemone was the closest match I could find. Which guidebook(s) do you use?

sweetpea, if burning clothes helps then I need to burn my shirt, pants, underwear, shoes and socks.

ahem, Hyway, if you are implying that I look in real life the way I look in that gray sweater...I'm gonna pelt you with olives next time I see you....and I'm down in your state a lot.......

LOL.

Newcombs Wildflower Guide is one that I might carry with me but for general reference I use Radford, Ahles, and Bell's Manual of the Vascular Flora of the Carolinas - unfortunately nomenclature changes means that I usually have to verify the names against the USDA Plants database - http://plants.usda.gov/ the plants database is also often good to check distribution to see if the plant you think it is actually exists in the area where you saw it

Sweatpea, I don't think that he was implying that at all.

After all, that would mean that he would look in real life the way he does in his shirt, pants....underwear.....shoes..........and....

on second thought...... I better stop before I dig myself a deeper hole...

Hyway, i would be careful if I were you...

sweetpea, I'd have to see you naked to judge for sure, but I think the problem with that pic is that you are pressing your arms flat against your breast.

And I think some silly poster needs a good monkee whipping.

Hyway doesn't have side burns like that...luckily.

Hyway's hair lends itself to that pirate hiker motif he was discussing on the trail. I really would like to see him hikeing in pataloons or whatever they're called.

They would replace kilts for the leave no tracers. No need to stop and go or to bag it and pack it out. Just walk and go and it accumulates in the swell of the legging.

and I do have sideburns, sad to say, just not that think

not that it should matter, but my arms were actually flattened out against Tater's arms, which were around my waist at the time....

What? Sideburns are hot and manly!

Pirate hiker motif? I dunno...I am thinking disco shirt and bell bottoms.

sweatpea.. it doesn't matter!!!!! You were the one who wanted to burn the sweater..

Does this mean you are now going to get rid of tater, since his is the cause of your pythons? LOL

Next time he can put his arms around me.. I want to look THAT ripped....

No, I'm keeping Tater....the light colored sweater didn't help..but enough about my..uh pythons (sobs into my shirt sleeve)...we all know it aint so. LOL. Yeah Uh Taters not putting his arms round you 'Fool.

And sideburns like that aren't manly...they're scary. who knows what monkey boy could be hiding in all that hair! EWWWW.
