There is a new show on the Discovery channel called the Alaska Experiment. Three teams have been dropped into the Alaska wilderness for 90 days. So far it's not bad even though 4 out of the 5 women participants have cried. Two of them bicker constantly. How can I sign up for a show like that?

Theres no crying on TT trips......

That was a bunch of people who don't belong in the woods. One group couldn't find a lake 3 miles away, one couldn't do one mile an hour walking on the beach, and more comercial breaks than Lost. I won't be checking the calendar for the next episode.

But I promise after 2 months of Alaska winter you'd see me cry too.

We have crying on TT. I caught about two minutes of the show. I will have to catch a rerun.

I saw the commercials for it during Deadliest Catch but I didn't set my Tivo to record it, guess I'll have to catch the next episode.

I saw it, somewhat lame. They have "experts" with them at all times for their protection so I doubt any of them will get eaten by a grizzly. Those 2 fat girls are gonna scarf all the food the 1st week.

It would actually be very cool to try it though........in summer rather than winter.

yeah I think the 2 girls and their father were bickering already cause all that cotton they were wearing was chaffing them!Jeans and flannel shirts! And also because the one daughter was a fleepin psycho!! griping cause dad left his boots pointing in the wrong direction, sheesh. All in all it was pretty good though.

It's 4 groups not 3
Well I just wanted to point out it was 4 groups rather then 3...but thats cool.

I saw it and was laughing at the girls and her father. He was stupid for leaving the girls by themselves to "organize" the cabin. Oh and "Lock the door behind me" was a stupid comment. Like a bear is going to walk up and try using the door knob.

I finally watched it last night and what a riot. The team of three who took 2 days to go 3 miles because they kept going in circles.
The father and his 2 overwieght, out of shape daughters who made quick work out of their rations while father fished. I also noticed the jeans and the tears after an easy 6 mile walk. And what is with the pyscho daughter who cussed out her father about his boots?
Then the one couple that consist of a wife who ultrafit and the hubby who camps twice a year and is out of shape and ends up #&%!$ing before getting to the cabin although they did have 10 miles to hike to the cabin.
The final couple who had to kayak to their place were the only ones who really had it together. They built a covered porch to keep thier firewood dry and to store their wet clothes and they actually caught a fish.
Overall it was pretty good but pretty sad too. Discovery could have picked better people.

Tonight's episode wasn't all that great. One of the comments made was that soon "it would be too cold to cut wood." WTF?? Living in Northern WI I grew up cutting wood. The colder the better! When the wood is frozen solid it splits so well. I suppose the drama isn't the same if they don't say you have to stop everything as soon as winter arrives. The hunting part was kinda funny, and seeing the heart steaks frying in the pan made me think of deer season.

But if they had picked better people, the show would not be as interesting!

Seems like the producers tried to level the playing field among the groups by giving them a somewhat equitable set of circumstances. The father and daughters have a good shelter, good fishing and canning skills, good firewood source, but terrible attitudes and poor food planning.

The husband and wife combo have a good shelter and have collected food, but the guy has physical limitations and they don't have much firewood yet.

The kayak couple has a terrible shelter (poor protection from animals and weather), poor firewood source, bad luck with canning, but they are smart.

The two guys and the girl have a good shelter, good firewood collecting skills, but not much food collected so far and the girl hasn't done much work that I remember.

So far I really like the show.

Too cold for firewood? Everyone knows firewood keeps you warm 4 times. Once cutting, once splitting, once stacking, and once burning.

How do these people find out about these opportunities? This is one of those that I would have tried out for.

Ok, who wants to go? We could get together a group of TT'rs. It would be the best season ever, as long as we don't kill each other with feugo.

I caught part of the last two episodes. What's the deal? They take ordinary peeps and just throw them out there?

Be honest: Who would have told that group of 3 to get lost if they showed up at your cabin with no food?

I kept waiting for them to turn around after they knew they were going to run out of food. But they never did, then they showed up like "here we are, we have no food, and we're going to set our tent up out here in negative 30 temps and look all pathetic until you invite us to sleep in your cozy cabin."

Whatever happened to the two in the canvas-like shelter near the water, the ones the screwed up canning the salmon? I must have missed an episode. Seems like they were given the worst set of circumstances - poorest shelter, worst fuel source, poorest food source, etc.

I'd love doing this, but alas, Birch will be doing the great sand box experiment. Can't think of single other soul I'd want to spend that kind of one on one time with, or that I know would have the ability and strength and cooperative spirit.

We watched the entire season and constantly talked about how much we'd love to do something similar.

just found this email

Dear mapleleaf, I know that we dont know each other, but I need your help to get onto the show. Me and my dad both want to get onto the show, but we dont know how to. I am a 13 year old boy, who saw the Alaska Experiment and wanted to get on there immediately. Unfortunately, I got into a horrible 4 wheeler accident in some woods in North Carolina which left me with a fractured wrist and a broken toe. My dad is a retired Navy Seal who wants to get onto the show also. Although I'm hurt, I would get onto the show for anything. So please send me information on when to sign up for the show. Thanks for anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(p.s. If you want to know where I got your email address, I got it off trailtalk.com. I am a member there.)

wish i could help :(
