“If a tree falls in the dark, it does in fact make a sound. It also takes out the power, phone, and cable line. Fun times last night. A tree took out the power line from the pole to the house service. Not only that it only took out the neutral and the resulting power surge fried 2 TV’s (not even on), the cable box, a DVD player, VCR, among other things. The funny thing is everything that got taken out where plugged into surge protectors. Guess I’m calling the insurance company later to find out if it can be replaced and at what deductible.” 4:43:04 AM 4/24/08 “1) Was the tree on your property? By the way, I've had insurance compensate me for lightning damage before.. so this should be in line with the same sort of thing.. awesome basement btw.. ![]() last edited: 4/24/08 4:55:30 AM” 4:53:42 AM 4/24/08 “Your Rhetorical question may result in a Pyrrhic victory Where your insurance covers all the damage, and then triples your premium. last edited: 4/24/08 4:58:20 AM” 4:57:54 AM 4/24/08 “if they were plugged into surge protectors you might want to contact the manufacturer...some have guarantees” 5:01:01 AM 4/24/08 “The tree was on my property, well technically my landlord's. It was actually about 12" diameter limb on a big oak tree by the road. It's actually the town and national grid's responsibility to take care of the tree due to it's proximity to the road and power line. The basement shot, isn't my basement, but of a building my firm worked on restoring.” 5:10:24 AM 4/24/08 “So you have renter's insurance?.. not home owners? hMmmm.. depends on how good your coverage is, and how good your relationship with your landlord is. You may be in luck though, because of the tree's location. last edited: 4/24/08 5:27:04 AM” 5:25:57 AM 4/24/08 “At least my 2 month old computer was spared.” 5:28:23 AM 4/24/08 “We've lost TVs over the years, computers.. lightning strikes.. insurance paid up.. but let me try to claim hail damage to my roof, and they balked -- so you never know. As for trees, I've said for years I need to have someone come in and cut some trees that stand close to my driveway, cars, outbuilding, garage.. and have yet to get it done -- so yeah -- I may have a similar story one day. ![]() last edited: 4/24/08 6:07:35 AM” 5:57:40 AM 4/24/08
